JohnRich 4 #1 October 25, 2005 News: Daniel Craig will have a problem playing the new James Bond - because he hates guns. The actor will wield 007's famous Walther PPK in the movie Casino Royale. But he revealed in OK! magazine: "I hate handguns. Handguns are used to shoot people and as long as they are around, people will shoot each other. Craig is not the first Bond to reveal a hatred of guns. Roger Moore, who played the superspy from 1973 to 1985, said after quitting the role that he hated "that awful pose" of Bond with his gun which has become an iconic movie image. The actor declared: "Today I am completely opposed to small arms... I played every role tongue-in-cheek because I don't really believe in that sort of hero. I don't like guns."Source: This is London
Mike111 0 #2 October 25, 2005 Understandable though, handguns do cause a lot of problmes on the one hand, but are also useful in scenarios such as self defence. Although, Bond is fantasy, im sure it wouldn't be too hard to put up with using them just for the purpose of acting, unless there is some deep personla conviction against them. shropshire 0 #12 October 26, 2005 Eh? He's only an actor.... why does he have to like guns to play the part of someone who uses a gun? By inferrence, any one who does like anything shouldn't ever play that part If an actor didn't like killing, he/sh could never play a murderer If an actor didn't like skydiving he should walk away from any story with parachutes in (.)Y(.) Mike111 0 #18 October 26, 2005 Nope, that is unrealistic and impractical. but if we can remove 1 method which is common, then that is an alleviation of the situation. The guns law in the USA is stupid - any nutcase or person could have a gun IMHO, but thats a different matter.
ReBirth 0 #19 October 26, 2005 QuoteNope, that is unrealistic and impractical. but if we can remove 1 method which is common, then that is an alleviation of the situation. Then the next new method becomes common. Again, I know it's cliche, but people kill people. If they want to kill they'll find a way, they always have and always will. QuoteThe guns law in the USA is stupid - any nutcase or person could have a gun IMHO, but thats a different matter. The point your missing is that if the laws were made more restrictive, then any nutcase or person would still be able to get a gun, illegally. Currently, any nutcase or person can't legally get a gun. You have to not be a fellon and not have been commited to a mental hospital. The laws already exist, they aren't fully enforced. If you pass new laws they new laws will exist that won't be fully enforced. The net result is that just as many nutcases and thugs have guns, but you may be criminalizing otherwise lawsabiding, peaceful good citizens for no reason. Why do gun owners oppose new laws? Because there are already a whole shitload of them and they're hard to keep track of. If I happen to have a common type of ammo used here in my gym bag because a round fill in the pocket at the range, when I cross the river a mile away into the next state, I would go to jail. No more restrictive laws are needed. The laws are plenty restrictive enough. We need enforcement. We need to keep violent criminals locked up. (to do that we need to release non-violent drug offenders, but that's another topic).

mnealtx 0 #24 October 26, 2005 QuoteFair point, but doesn't enforcement mean tighter clamp down, and the way to do that is to prevent the carrying of guns unless by police? Perhaps that is the case in your native England, but in the U.S. it is still legal for the common man to possess firearms...it hasn't gotten to the "only for police" point yet, and I pray it never will.Mike I love you, Shannon and Jim. AggieDave 6 #25 October 26, 2005 Quote.it hasn't gotten to the "only for police" point yet, and I pray it never will. The irony to the "police only" to weapons is that police weapons get taken from the officer by bad-guys fairly often. Sounds bad doesn't it? Well, even with level 3 holsters those who would do no good will sometimes still get their hands on the officer's handgun and get out of dodge. Sometimes they shoot the officer with their own weapon. Most of the feel good lets save the world by banning handguns ideas have serious flaws and would do nothing but give the self righteous something to dream about, since it would only work in fantasy land. There were very similar discussions years ago about crossbows (years as in hundreds of years ago) and you can tell that by the banning of crossbows our world is definately a better place.... HA!--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
