VisionAir 0 #10 October 14, 2005 Up until 6 months ago I spent the last 18 years of my life literally constantly stoned. I've never met anyone that smoked more then myself. I was self-medicating my ADD because it slowed my brain down enough I could keep up with it....or so I rationalized. I can tell you from experience that I did not "grow" more brain cells leading me to reduced anxiety and depression. In fact quite the opposite...there for a while I was also taking doctor prescribed anti-depressants. And the only thing those did for me was improve my sexual performance....which did improve my mood Huh?!? What cloud?!? Oh that!!! That's just Industrial Haze Alex M. Darius11 12 #11 October 14, 2005 I don’t think it is a coincidence that some of the most creative people smoke weed. I also know many people who smoke weed, have jobs and are great parents as well. It is just stupid to say it is ok to have a 6 pack of beer but if you smoke a joint you are a criminal. also you can not OD on weed.I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not." - Kurt Cobain
Shotgun 1 #12 October 14, 2005 The link isn't working for me, but I assume it's the same story that was posted in the Bonfire(?) If so, it is not even pot that they have been testing - it is a similar substance to THC, but it's not the same thing: QuoteThe team injected laboratory rats with a synthetic substance called HU-210, which is similar, but 100 times as potent as THC (delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol), the compound responsible for giving marijuana users a high. So I think it's a little far-fetched to suggest that smoking weed might have the same effect. But it sounds like there might be potential benefits in using the HU-210. IanHarrop 42 #14 October 14, 2005 Quotealso you can not OD on weed. Well maybe not OD, but you CAN DIE! While attending the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon (home of the study that started this thread) back in the 70's my psych prof (not the one from this study) provided us with the results of another study involving rats. It showed it was possible to ingest enough weed that you could DIE. The dosage, when scaled up from the portions given the poor rats that died, would require a person to ingest 400 lbs of weed - at one sitting. May seem like a lot to some but some of us were very ambitious "Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy

IanHarrop 42 #18 October 14, 2005 QuoteI love that our choice other than marijuana is drinking a poison. Excuse me, but alcohol is an antiseptic. If you had an external wound you would apply alcohol to it to make it better. So if you have an internal wound, applying alcohol is required. I've tried applying it topically (spilled lots on myself over time) but it doesn't work. I found the only way to get the antiseptic to the internal wounds is to drink the alcohol. I know this works because after I drink the alcohol, I always feel better. rhys 0 #19 October 14, 2005 QuoteI love that our choice other than marijuana is drinking a poison. Doesn't mean I don't do of course. alcohol is not necessarily poison. a glass or two of red wine makes you health better and your life expectency longer. just like a toot on a pipe or even better a piece of cake made from cannabis stimulates the brain into thinking about your surroundings. and makes you aware of things you would have otherwise overlooked before. overuse of either is not good for you but in moderation it is all good. just like anything. cannabis is not a gateway drug that leads you to harder drugs, as was mentioned before, prohibition is the gate that leads our youth to these harder drugs, teenagers 'will' try drugs and alcohol. if they have to go to gangs and criminals as they do with prohibition. they will be exposed to, and pushed onto harder drugs. in new zealand weed can be up to $400 an oz on the black market. this is almost the same price as gold. when broken down into $50 bags it is worth more than gold. alchemy has always been considered the ultimate way to get rich. prohibition allows gangs and other criminals to sell a plant for more than gold. this is essentially alchemy. prohibition is the problem."When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix

Dude, I am not against marijuana or alcohol. But I often find that people are against pot simply because it is illegal. And these same people often act like drinking is so much better for you. But alcohol (the chemical) IS a poison. It dehydrates the brain and make the kidneys work overtime. it is not the alcohol in wine that is benificial. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Shotgun 1 #24 October 14, 2005 Quoteit is not the alcohol in wine that is benificial. Actually, while there may be other health benefits from red wine, alcohol in general (including the alcohol in wine) is thought to have certain benefits when consumed in moderation, such as reducing the risk of heart disease. I once read something that said, "Alcohol is both a tonic and a poison; the difference is mostly in the dose," (or something like that) and I think that is probably true.
