They're trying to prevent possible suicide bombers. Stadium security is not very tight these days and a would be suicide bomber wouldn't have much trouble getting into a stadium during an event and killing a few innocent people. But how much security is too much? I don't know that answer.

actually the story goes on talking about an explosion outside the stadium that kille done person. That person has not yet been identified, but is believed ot be an OU student who has supposedly made a purchase or an attempted purchase of a substance that can be used in the making of a bomb.

More information available if yoiu look indicates the explosive used contained hydrogen peroxide as an accelerant. H2O2 bombs are very easy to make, but VERY unstable. It's entirely possible that his detonation was a bit premature. He could also have chickened out.

While there is little info, it is being treated as a suicide, he did kill himself with a bomb, and he was rumored to have recently joined a local Mosque.

I only posted it because this event seems to raise many questions that do not appear to have been asked.

First on my list is did he intend to enter the game?

Even a small bomb inside a crowded football stadium could result in a pretty big panic I would think.
I recall a thread earlier where there were many that thought US citizens could never blow themselves up in public places.

I heard it on the radio this morning. Some guy was saying that this "suicide" guy was denied entrance into the stadium in the hours before the game. apparently he refused to let security look inside his back pack. So the idea that stadium security is pretty weak doesn't hold water. Those guys appear to have done thier job.

Tha latest report I saw indicates that this guy had recently joins the same mosque that Zacarias Moussaoui.

Those articles don't ask or answer the question of this individuals motives. I believe it is possible that this was a attempted terrorist attack.

FOX reports "no one inside the stadium was ever in danger"

Followup stories are very minimal. Maybe he was just depressed and wanted a solo exit. Seems like a strange way to do it to me. There are a lot of suicides but this is the only one that I have heard of where a backpack bomb was used outside of a football stadium.

Thanks for the bomb info. TATP is also very unstable and while easy to make, many would be bombers have met their god a bit early when making it or attempting to use it.

Seems he did go quite a bit out of his way to have a unique exit if it was indeed merely a suicide.

A couple of possibilities comes to mind, besides suicide:

- The bomb detonated early accidentally, before he positioned himself for maximum damage.

- It really was a suicide, but a suicide with a message of fear: "I'm a Muslim, and I could have taken out a whole bunch of you American Christian assholes with me!"

One of the thoughts is that security wouldn't let him without checking the back pack. so he went to the bench and attempted to wrap the device around his check...so the jacket would conceal the bulk. One account of the aftermath is that the top half of the body was almost completely destroyed bt the blast. I can see that happening if the bomb is goes off while he was trying to wrap it around his chest.
