Here, either a mother has to have an HIV test while she's pregnant or her children have to be tested when they're born. Refusal to treat your children for a serious illness is medical neglect. It's insane to let a mom keep her kids who is so friggin' stubborn that she's willing to let them die rather than admit the obvious. That first link is readable and she is American in California. There is a small and frightening group of people who do not believe AIDS is caused by HIV. Many of them believe that AIDS is cause by the retroviral medications for HIV. Or that what people think of as AIDS is merely separate ocassions of already known diseases. It is not Denial. It is belief, however idiotic it may seem. And it is NOT illegal to refuse testing in ALL PARTS of America. Lindsey 0 #4 October 5, 2005 Where is here? okay....my bad....I'm post call. "Here" is where I am...lol...in Arkansas. We're progressive, apparently, in both family court and family planning. There is a group of people who think that AIDS is a punishment sent by God. Doesn't matter what they think. If you don't treat you children for a life-threatening illness, the state can, should, and often does take them away. That's the easy part. Where we fall really, really short is providing children in these circumstances with an acceptable alternative.... I have known far too many children who were abused and neglected to at least the same extent in foster homes as in the homes from which they were removed to begin with. Sometimes kids are just SOL.
