waltappel 1 #1 October 5, 2005 I don't know all that much about PETA, other than they have quite the reputation for publicly being real extremists against any form of any injury to animals yet being quite hypocritical by euthanizing thousands of shelter animals. Anyway, I'm a long-time NRA member and I regularly get NRA propaganda. Even though I do consider the NRA to be honest in presenting facts, I expect them to be quite biased. Hell, that's why I'm a member--I've got many of the same biases! I recently got some NRA propaganda regarding PETA that shows an image they claim was "taken from a propaganda piece that People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is distributing to children across America". I just love the image. I couldn't find it on PETA's website, so I cannot verify its authenticity, but as far as propaganda goes, it's awesome! Gawain 0 #2 October 5, 2005 Yes, this was done by PETA. There were a few news stories about it a couple years ago. It was intended for children etc. So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! happythoughts 0 #4 October 5, 2005 I recently saw Lord of War with Nicholas Cage. There is a scene in it where he and his brother are selling arms to a group. Behind them is a group of people that the group will immediately slaughter. The brother starts to get all righteous. It seems he didn't have the emotional structure to deal with the end result of his actions. It was ok to sell guns when he didn't see people get killed with them. Similarly, some people give me grief about hunting. They like to believe that their McChicken lived a happy life and then committed a painless suicide. Or that, somehow, strangers are doing this in a more humane way.

AlexCrowley 0 #6 October 5, 2005 Anyone else remember when PETA was considered a terrorist organization? you know, back when terrorism wasnt just done by people with brown skin. TV's got them images, TV's got them all, nothing's shocking.
jumpinfarmer 0 #7 October 5, 2005 I didn't know PETA was off the terrorist list now. We still regularly get warnings from the extension service as to when and were PETA is holding meetings or planning there next attack. They are truly a menace to society

freethefly 6 #12 October 5, 2005 It is great that the People Easily Trained by Animals show that children can have just as much fun killing fish with father as they can killing bunnies with mom. Eiley 0 #15 October 5, 2005 The second page of that leaflet is even better: http://www.furisdead.com/pdfs/mommykills.pdf "Do you have a puppy you take for walks or play ball with? Or a kitty who likes to chase string? Everyone knows that it’s fun to love and play with our animal friends. But how would you feel if someone took away your kitty or puppy, stomped on their head, and ripped their skin off their bodies?... keep your doggie or kitty friends away from mommy—she’s an animal killer!" Gee, kids, traumatised much? nothing to see here

Guest #18 October 6, 2005 Oh, man, that is so funny.... "I didn't claw my way to the top of the food chain to eat vegetables." I do not want to see animals suffer, but hey, I'm an omnivore - I cannot exist on plant matter alone. Even my teeth are geared towards this. However, I applaud and respect those who choose the vegetarian path. It is a difficult one, and by being a commited consumer of vegetable matter, one risks terrible health problems. But these cartoonish scare-tactics won't create any adherents. It looks like a cheap shot, and I find it to be in the same vein as the religious (and socialist!) arguments - they aim for the guts of children rather than the brains of adults, simply because they are easier targets. mh ."The mouse does not know life until it is in the mouth of the cat."
