Sopheavy 0 #1 October 4, 2005 I know this is pretty normal but I've never received it before except for the usual jury duty. I just received a survey from the US District Court and it is a survey to fill out and return in 10 days or I will be summoned and fill out in the office there. My name was randomly selected and since I am a student I want to be exempt. I called them up and they said that students are not exempt and once they get all of the surveys, they will draw names and it can be anywhere from 1-4 years before actually being selected for jury service for US District Court. So, anyone received this before and served?---------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------- If you want to see the rainbow, you gotta put up with the storm. gemini 0 #2 October 4, 2005 Yep. Had to go twice over about a 20 year period. First time was selected for the trial of a guy who had threatened a US witness if she testified in another case. Second time was the attempted murder of a female US agent by a woman who stabbed her about 10-11 times. Wonder when and what the next one will be? Sopheavy 0 #3 October 4, 2005 So were the cases really long? That would stinks if they pick me while I'm still in school (should be finished next semester...hopefully since I'm going at a snail rate). Also, that would stink for work too because I rarely have time to even take 1 day off from work even though I have 6 weeks worth of vacation. Those sounds like interesting cases, like John Grisham novels. Did you have to go to another city or was it local?---------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------- If you want to see the rainbow, you gotta put up with the storm. gemini 0 #4 October 4, 2005 The witness retaliation case ran for over 3 weeks. I don't remember how long the attempted murder case was. Had to report everyday even if nothing was going on, but got a "free" lunch at a decent restaurant. I think we got paid $12 per day and the parking at the courthouse was like $15 per day! Sopheavy 0 #5 October 4, 2005 That's messed up about the parking costing more than what you got paid per day at court. That stinks!---------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------- If you want to see the rainbow, you gotta put up with the storm.
