GTAVercetti 0 #1 September 30, 2005 Lettor the Editor I read today ( I did not see the photo in question -- but I am guessing the photo dealt with a republican slant since it is in juxaposition to Cindy Sheehan in the letter): If one thing is clear from the letters regarding the cover photo on Monday, it is that neither side is going tobe happy with media coverage unless their own, and only their own, views get shown. Why are we supposed to have sympathy for Cindy Sheehan and her loss, but not Monday's crying mother and her loss? The conservatives don't like it when their pro-Iraq war or pro-Bush views are questioned, either. It seems each side is terrified that the other's viewpoint may be seen as legitimate, or even having a legitimate point or two. It's about keeping the other side and their views from coming out in any way but they "should" be seen, makiong them appear on the fringes of culture and isolating them from any positive press. It's about power plays and image and self-righteousness. It is what keeps this country from truly discussing ideas, prevents citizens from listening to each other and bars the various parts of the community from accepting differences of opinion. That is truly sad. - Lisa Pugh ------------------------------- I agree. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.
popsjumper 2 #2 September 30, 2005 Quote... I agree. I disagree and your viewpoint sucks and shouldn't be heard. Sounds like one of those idiots who votes strictly party-line like no other political party has anything to offer that's worth a shit. My reality and yours are quite different. I think we're all Bozos on this bus. Falcon5232, SCS8170, SCSA353, POPS9398, DS239
Gravitymaster 0 #3 September 30, 2005 I agree too. Apparently this post qualifies you as a Republican according to some since we are constantly told it's Republicans who keep bringing her name up and giving her an audience.

Well I am safe in the knowledge that I am not a member of the Republican party. Nor the Democratic party for that matter I have never heard this "republicans bring her up" thing though. She was involved in that protest(the anti-anti-protest) and arrested. Pretty sure THAT was not republican. Interesting side note though relating to those protests. After the main protest, there was supposed to be an anti-protest (supporting the war) and 20,000 were expected. 400 showed up.Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing. panzwami 0 #5 September 30, 2005 It's one of the finer merits of the two-party system: if you're not with us, you're against us. Politics in this country has degenerated to the point where you no longer win elections by convincing the electorate that your ideas are better for the country than the opposition's. Instead, victory is achieved by making people more afraid of your opponent than he can make them of you. Both sides are equally quick to pounce on the other's weaknesses and missteps as opportunities to sway voters not toward their own ideas, but away from the other side. The end result is that both sides fight over who is the larger victim, hoping to sway sympathy points by pointing out how much more flawed the other side is, repeating the process forever.
