Do you think gas shortages are coming?

Recommended Posts

I think fuel shortages will come. Then, as people become more efficient, they will use less fuel and there will be an excess of fuel. Then people will start using more, thereby causing a shortage, which will cause them to use less, thereby creating an excess. Continue ad infinitum.

I did see $6 a gallon in Atlanta.

Probably, but temporarily. I haven't had any trouble getting gas here in N. Texas, and I haven't seen people lined up at the gas pumps either.

Alot of people I know are starting to carpool though, and I've been riding the motorcycle anywhere I don't need my car.:)

If we had a constant supply of the raw materials I would agree. But we don't. That will lead to a constant downward trend in supply, which will force prices higher even if we use less fuel. The only way prices will drop is if we cut our fuel usage faster than the supply runs out. Since we can't even slow our increase right now, I have a feeling that won't happen.

u.s. now uses more lp gas than it produces

oil..100% of the refineries on the southern coast are still shut down

last refinery built in u.s. was 30 years ago

we now have to import refined gasoline

u.s. was more oil reserves in thic country than saudi, mexico combined butttt
we cannot drill or use it

complain of high fuel prices ,,big banks now control the oil futures market

No we don't. US production peaked in the 1970's and will never regain its old levels. At most we can continue at our current levels if we keep drilling new wells as old wells run dry.

If we cut off China that would help. The war that would follow would help also, because there would be less people dependant on the Oil after the war.

I myself will have one of them cars that is propelled by the nuclear winds. Living in a lead suit will cause some problems though.

The shortage is coming, and it's coming soon. The refineries are at capacity, men and machinery are scarce, REAL scarce. We need to build more refineries to become less dependendant on foriegn energy sources. The bungled Iraq war that the iraqi oil was going to pay for isn't going over real big either, this along with the catastrophe in New Orleans and the lost production in the gulf have weakend inventory levels. Tapping the SOR doesn't help either. Build a refinery, or deal with Chavez, Castro and the "Sheiks?" No brainer. Later Bro! :)

Bull Shit I live about 10 miles from the Exxon/Mobile refinery in Baton Rouge, LA. I can in fact tell you that the largest refinery in the south is up and running. Why do you say crap like this????

I believe that the majority of them in the Pasadena area are back up as well, as they hardly were hit by Rita.

More refineries makes us more dependent on foreign sources. Refineries do not produce oil, despite some people's beliefs.

Your remark is well spoken, my remark is based on proven statistics. When i said we need to build more refineries, i meant that if we had more refineries we could be energy independendt because we would have the ability to process our own energy sources which is an ability we do not currently posess. My whole deal is to be self sustaining in the energy world and stop playing "Pin the tail on the donkey" with the rest of the world when it comes to oil inventories and reserves. It would be nice to tell Chavez to eat his oil, but we can't. BillVon, "That ain't right" :)

I disagree, plenty of oil in the Gulf, off the coast of California, and Florida, not to mention all that oil in Alaska.

Your right, there is plenty of oil in the gulf. We cant drill off of the coast of Florida, Pemex is in charge of everything from Brownsville, Texas south. We lost, in the latest two storms 10 production facilities and Drilling Contractors who had to abandon their drilling vessels some of them semi-submersibles (Deep Water Floaters) found about another 10 of them either lost, foundered or severely damaged. It will be at least 6 months before the gulf is back where it was. Alaska, yeah right. When the greenies lay off, Calirofnia, same thing. I can't believe these people won't let us drill our own reserves!@??&^%$ >:(

Most of those greenies don't even bath, so sometimes you just got to step over them and move on. I came accross an article from a journalist that was stuck on a train of greenies, war protesters and the like. He mentioned the smell was very unbecoming not to mention the singing was lousy.

But I have an idea, why not have no more than 6 blends of gasoline nation wide. That would save loads of money and increase supply big time. You would have to tell the greenies to shove it, that would'nt be to hard, they are not all that productive anyway.

You would here alot of yelling and crying, but with a good spanking you can tell them to take a bath and go to bed, and don't forget to brush your teeth, and oh yea cut your hair, your not in high school anymore. (Grow up and stop acting like an ASS)

I'm a greenie, and I take showers at every opportunity!

Sure, provided it meets air quality standards.

Many people don't understand environmentalists because they operate on a different time scale. Try to talk to an oil company exec about a 20 year timeframe and they just give you the blank stare. "What? 20 years? I'll be retired by then! Who the fuck cares what happens in 20 years?"

More refineries = more demand. More demand = more dependence on foreign sources. Simple math. (And if more refineries will NOT result in processing more oil, why build them?)

Please refer to the URL i provided in one of my above post. There is sufficient information there from reputable firms and professional sources to provide any information you require for any questions or issues you may have. Back to the main topic ofthe post: Do you think gas shortages are coming? My answer is still an emphatic "YES!" And what the heck should i know anyway? I have only designed and drilled the wells on all corners of the globe for the last 29 years. And i do care about the next 20 years, even though i'm in the autumn of my life, i have children and grandchildren, i'd like to think i'm leaving some sort of positive influence on ther future and the world's insatiable thirst for oil, and consumption of natural gas. :)

Whose standards? Who gets to define that? Which state? and if the national standard isn't good enough for, say, Minnesota, then do they pass a local law and screw it up for everyone else?

The EPA.

Well, they can always be more strict if they want, for whatever reason. Doesn't screw up Wisconsin, because Wisconsin can still use those above-mentioned six grades of gas. Heck, it _helps_ Wisconsin, because now those six grades of gas are more available (since Minnesota can't use them.)

Nothing a good war to knock the Chinese and Indians back to the stone age wont cure.

:D:D;)

there must be a reasonable shortage, i just saw G.W. reluctantly ask the U.S. to cut down on gas consumption.

maybe if the U.S. automibile industry could have actually built a fuel efficient car then this (forseen) problem wouldn't have arisen. also the mindset behind driving 6litre 4wd pieces of shit to drop the kids off a few blocks to school just to look cool/wealthy is a contributing attribute.
