AlexCrowley 0 #1 September 28, 2005 Pilot placed on No Fly List. So, the TSA have cancelled fast checkins for frequent flyers, are still going to roll out the Secure Flight initiative, albeit without commercial data in it. It still remains to be seen how exactly the No Fly list is going to be used accurately. "Remember what the no-fly list is. It's a list of people who are so dangerous that they can't be allowed to board an airplane under any circumstances, yet so innocent that they can't be arrested -- even under the provisions of the PATRIOT Act." - Bruce Schneier I realize that there's a very large emotional reaction from American's in response to 911 (very passionate "NEVER AGAIN!!" type reactions), but so far the TSAs response has been almost totally assbackward - creating an illusion of security for the public while either increasing the risk in some areas or simply maintaining the status quo. That the No Fly list hasn't caused public outcry constantly baffles me. There's a situation where any US citizen or resident can be put on a list that effectively halts their ability to travel yet cannot be defended against in a court of law. Those cases where the court have tried to find out details have been rebuffed due ot national security issues, leaving the victim with absolutely no answers or recourse. But thank god they have my taking my shoes off at security! I feel safer! TV's got them images, TV's got them all, nothing's shocking.
kallend 2,151 #2 September 28, 2005 I have my own plane and I allow myself aboard most of the time without removing my shoes or undergoing a cavity search.... The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one.

Most of the time?!? hey, if John wants to search his cavities in the privacy of his own hanger - who are you to judge? ... AndyMan 7 #9 September 28, 2005 Quote Well, at least it proves they aren't just profiling people from the M.E. We've known that for ever. Senator Kennedy, and the Canadian defense minister were also both refused boarding due to the 'no fly list'. _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead. SkyDekker 1,465 #13 September 30, 2005 QuoteDid you hear a whooshing sound when you read the first post? Nope. But I constantly hear americans talking about market forces and if you don't like some thing vote with your w3allet and how capitalism is such a great thing, etc etc. The airline industry is just anotehr business in the same scenario. If enough people get pissed off about the no-fly list and decide not to fly anymore, the airlines will eventually have to go to the TSA and get them to improve the no-fly process. NickDG 23 #14 September 30, 2005 The first time I ever heard of a "no fly" list was in 1978 when I got grounded at Lake Elsinore for hook turning my piglet. My cries that going faster made it land better fell on deaf ears . . . NickD BASE

tbrown 26 #16 October 2, 2005 I found out that I'm on the "no fly" list last December, when trying to fly to Boston with my wife and two daughters for my parents 50th wedding anniversary. They won't give you a reason for why you're on the list, but I think it's because Thomas Brown is such a common name - Brown being the 4th or 5th most common family name in America. There was a lot of publicity last year about David Nelsons being denied boarding on planes because the asshole Fed'l govt had put their names on the list. So I don't know what conclusion to draw - other than that I won't even try to take my rig on a flight, unless some Fed'l PIG starts tearing my reserve container apart. I'm not a Muslim, I was born in fucking NYC for Chrissake, I was even working for Boeing on the morning of 9/11. So do you feel any safer if they let me fly with my family or not ? These Feds couldn't fuck their way out of a paper bag in whorehouse. Your humble servant.....Professor Gravity !

So much for free interstate travel. If only Billvon were President.
