Feeblemind 1 #26 September 20, 2005 QuoteQuoteI saw first hand a person buy a $500 dollar Gucci purse with a FEMA debit card. The employee at Gucci and I could not believe it. pretty sh*tty isn't it. couldn't the all-mighty govt. put restrictions on the card, just like food stamps? still, once the money is spent on that gucci bag and the louis vitton stuff, it won't be there for food and diapers and clothing... hope the gucci tastes good... I think the government had good intentions by giving out the $2k. But as far trying to put restrictions on it would require a committee, staff and years of research, I can only imagine what that would cost Fire Safety Tip: Don't fry bacon while naked
GTAVercetti 0 #27 September 20, 2005 QuoteQuoteI understand that. I'm the type that wants to see the good in everyone. I'm just hoping my money went for diapers. Easy enough. Don't give money. Give diapers. Exactly. I saw an interview with Samuel L Jackson and he said that he COULD give money to the Red Cross or some other charity group but he would not know where it was going. Instead, whenever he was in a diner and saw someone who was affected by the storm, he bought the family their meal. And he was talking about expanding that idea and giving meals on a larger scale if he was going to do anything. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing. rwieder 0 #28 September 20, 2005 QuoteThink of it this way. Your money bought ten thousand family dinners for every Gucci bag; that's a better deal than you'll get from any other part of the government. BillVon: Ya got me there. I never even thought of it that way. Thanks once again for setting me straight on my perspective views. I guess there is some good in everything, you just have to look for it.-Richard- "You're Holding The Rope And I'm Taking The Fall"
base283 0 #29 September 20, 2005 I am playing the devils advocate here. Maybe we should keep these underprivileged under priveleged. I mean with designer clothes they might get a job that would otherwise be out of reach and elevate them to privileged. Keep em in T-shirts, tennis shoes and worn out jeans. take care, space
heidihagen 0 #30 September 20, 2005 and i've see them with bags and bags right at the main street square stop, waiting to catch a ride back to the dome. (or george brown center... the rail runs past both). they must have it pretty good because a lot of them have little interest in leaving. new orleans reopened the other day for a short while. while my aunt working with them,,, she said she felt like she was making progress until a few flat out said they had no intentions of leaving... haha! i mean, how do you respond to that?? they have to leave sooner or later since we have another storm headed this way. so, i guess that's up to fema. http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=10000087&sid=aqVu1hQjgvtUi didn't lose my mind, i sold it on ebay. .:need a container to fit 5'4", 110 lb. cypres ready & able to fit a 170 main (or slightly smaller):.[/ce

The problem is with the person who sold the purse and the people selling anything else that isn't a necessity.

They are not going out and buying suits, or printing up resumes on heavy paper. I have never owned "designer" clothes and I amazingly have a job. In anycase, with any situation like this, you are bound to have those who try to fuck the system. That is the nature of the world. Of course, reports about people using the money to buy food just would not be as interesting. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing. Ashtanga 0 #33 September 20, 2005 QuoteThe problem is with the person who sold the purse and the people selling anything else that isn't a necessity. You mean the 19 year old girl who makes $8.00 an hour for selling the bag should take full resposibility of it? Of course she should convince the person that what they are doing is wrong. I am sure that person would of listened to her.

gemini 0 #35 September 20, 2005 Interesting story on the news the day after the cards were issued. A tatoo artist was complaining: 1) Because people were coming into the shop and trying to buy tatoos with the card and he was refusing to work on them. 2) He was watching them use their cards at an ATM across the street from the shop and then come back in with cash and demanding he work on them. Pretty sharp way to get paid in cash without tracibility to the abuse of the cards.. ...
