happythoughts 0 #1 September 14, 2005 Everybody has their opinion on this stuff. It's a pretty touchy subject. However, even if no one posts back, this is just to think about. What is the dividing line ? How do people call the old stuff primitive and the new stuff valid ? At what point did someone say, "Hey, there is no spirit of the brook!" or "Praying to the tree spirit is odd." ...and Druids became less stylish. Or the Egyptians who don't pray to the sun anymore. There isn't a chariot carrying the sun across the sky. We still do Easter, even though current Christians don't want to consider the fertility dance part. It isn't a "time to plant" and "pray for a good harvest" festival. Whatever people believe, do they ever sit back and go "Whoa! Full time invisiblibility..." I think the key is information. Answers to questions. When someone figures out what happens when you die, there will be a lot of people tossing pointy hats in the dust bin.

I guess that would be the point of faith. If there was proof of God, Christianity would be a lot more popular, don't you think? -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life. Or Judaism would see a sudden surge. Unless your god's name is Allah, then Islam would be more popular.

In general to be considered mythology there will have been a considerable period of disuse, or use in extreme minority. For instance very few people here (assuming the typical user to be christian) would consider Islam, Buddhism or Hinduism to be mythology, they are referred to as religions. Yet the tales of Zeus, Apollo, Dyonisus etc. to be found in countless ancient texts would fall under the title of mythology. The same goes for Norse, Roman or Celtic gods.Do you want to have an ideagasm?

No! I am the One Keeper of the True Word! But thanks, it's still pretty vague and all but if you like it go ahead.I think another dividing line could be that the old stuff (mythology) is generally so much more interesting. Hell in Greek there's already been a universe spanning celestial war before the Olympians get into power. Far better than 'He was feeling a bit lonely and made the world'.Do you want to have an ideagasm?
