AlexCrowley 0 #1 September 6, 2005 At what point in a thread does the question: "Are you really that fucking stupid?" become considered a rational response rather than a personal attack? Just wondering, figured it may come in handy some time soon. Thanks TV's got them images, TV's got them all, nothing's shocking.
LouDiamond 1 #2 September 6, 2005 QuoteAt what point in a thread does the question: "Are you really that fucking stupid?" become considered a rational response rather than a personal attack? Some times it starts when the person creates the post. HOWEVER, it becomes a personal attack when you reply to it in the above manner on the forum(s). There is no room allotted for rationalization when it comes to PA's, the rules are very clear. You are however free to think and say the above statement out load as many times as you feel necessary in the privacy of your home."It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING
billvon 3,120 #3 September 6, 2005 >"Are you really that fucking stupid?" become considered a rational >response rather than a personal attack? Good rule of thumb - if you would consider it a personal attack if someone used it on you, it's a personal attack if you use it too.

Good rule of thumb - if you would consider it a personal attack if someone used it on you, it's a personal attack if you use it too. I have too many friends with the ability to say that as an opening volley to an evenings discussion on subjects as varied as "GWBush rigged the election" to "Jeff Goldblum showed some talent in a movie, once", which is why I was hoping for some perspective. Oh, additional question: Is it considered a personal attack if I was to refer someone to this thread as a way of response? TV's got them images, TV's got them all, nothing's shocking. billvon 3,120 #5 September 6, 2005 >Is it considered a personal attack if I was to refer someone to this >thread as a way of response? That's not even that interesting a PA. "See some other thread for a suprise personal attack." Now Winsor - Winsor could come up with some excellent personal attacks back in the rec.skydiving days, matched only by the prose in his later apologies. Would still get him banned here, of course, but he got points for style.

Trae 1 #11 September 7, 2005 Not answering a question here but more just proposing a hypothesis. Hypothesis(s). The attaker will not consider it a PA no matter what as for them they are decidedly ON TOPIC. The attackee will ALWAYS consider it a PA even if it is completely true. Any viewers will either laugh at the increased enjoyment level seeing the victim getting nailed or boo at their hero being lampooned or exposed or yawn in boredom at yet another 'storm in a teacup.' eg If PA is the result of reacting to another PA then the industry lacky will win any argument any time. by wielding ultimate power along with ultimate stupidity and bias (buy-us) If rudeness or PA is promulgated by a moderator then said moderator would most likely NOT consider it a personal attack but merely the sharing of wisdom. If any-one PA's everyone then its a win win situation given the beauty and simplicity of my stated hypothesis. ps I've found this topic very interesting ....no BS. Guest #13 September 7, 2005 That pic should be automatically attached to every single SC post. I ducked out for a couple days but the same guys are still going at it. Call me crazy but I'm pretty sure no one has changed sides on any issues. Why do people post in SC? Anyone that posts more than once a day in SC needs to get laid. (Why? It's a waste of time. Time is something you can't retrieve once its gone. Obviously, feel free to spend your time as you wish, as will I.) .02 You can have it good, fast, or cheap: pick two. On the other hand some of us just enjoy interacting with them. Like a cat playing with a mouse How can you expect a head of lettuce to change sides on issues. It doesn't have any legs or a brain. Lets not confuse the issue with the facts we're in SC Let the games continue R.I.P.

See, I only plan on posting just once, but what I didn't plan for was a response that pisses me off. Duhh. Now I have to waste my time arguing my point for no reason other than to not let down. I don't think the day will ever come when somebody will change their beliefs because of what someone else said on SC. Otherwise, it's just a good place to vent your frustrations, I just learned to uncheck the box that says "send e-mail notification on reply" and then I never go in the forum again. Oh yeah, and the days that I do post more than once, you're probably right, I didn't get laid that day.
