lawrocket 3 #1 September 6, 2005 Apparently, rescuing people ain't that easy. Ask Sean Penn. http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/afp/20050904/en_afp/usweatherpennpeople_050904211015 QuoteNEW ORLEANS, United States (AFP) - Efforts by Hollywood actor Sean Penn to aid New Orleans victims stranded by Hurricane Katrina foundered badly, when the boat he was piloting to launch a rescue attempt sprang a leak. Penn had planned to rescue children waylaid by Katrina's flood waters, but apparently forgot to plug a hole in the bottom of the vessel, which began taking water within seconds of its launch. Here's the part that pisses me off and leads me to believe that rescuing people was not his motivation. QuoteWhen the boat's motor failed to start, those aboard were forced to use paddles to propel themselves down the flooded New Orleans street. Asked what he had hoped to achieve in the waterlogged city, the actor replied: "Whatever I can do to help." With the boat loaded with members of Penn's entourage, including a personal photographer, one bystander taunted the actor: "How are you going to get any people in that thing?" Sean Penn took off to do this "Rescue Mission" with a boat loaded with his entourage. I can see the possible scene had the boat not started sinking: "Help us, Mr. Penn." "Sorry, there's only room on this boat for two of you. Are there any single mothers out here with one kid that you know of? The more pathetic looking, the better my photo-op." The fact that he had his personal photographer along (this is the same Sean Penn who made a tabloid career out of punching out paparazzi) and his boat loaded with others instead of making room and provisions for victims sounds to me more like he wanted a fucking pleasure cruise with a phot op. All that was missing was a quote from Penn stating, "I yam what I yam." If anyone saw Celine Dion on Larry King a couple of days ago, how was that for senseless bantering? My wife is hotter than your wife.

justinb138 0 #4 September 6, 2005 The "hole" he forgot to plug was probably the drain plug at the back of the boat. What a goober.

I expect he left his manservant behind to make room for the photographer.... The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one. GravityGirl 0 #7 September 7, 2005 Quote If anyone saw Celine Dion on Larry King a couple of days ago, how was that for senseless bantering? She was overwhelmed by emotion. What the hell? Senseless bantering? If you choose not to wear your heart on your sleeve, then good for you. But why critisize someone for showing her emotions? She gave a million dollars to the effort, and in her mind, it seemed irrellevant, because it was a drop in the bucket. Many people in this country are feeling useless, emotional, etc. She happens to be in the spotlight. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear! Michele 1 #8 September 7, 2005 Quote Just goes to proove that they shoot too many films in Holywood ...... and not enough actors HEY! My father resembles that remark...he is very active in the local charities, and I along with him. Sean Penn is a twerp...no doubt. But still, not everyone is a bad guy in Hollywood. Walt I was at the Stones concert last night at Soldier Field. They did a sing-along with Satisfaction. The concert was fantastic. Of course, the Stones are not "Hollywood".... lawrocket 3 #13 September 11, 2005 Quotethe Stones are not "Hollywood". Nope. The true Hollywood way of doing things is to get your publicist to make known that you plan on doing something yourself instead of getting out of the way and leaving it to the professionals. Clearly, the Rolling Stones have no idea how to get good press. They should have chartered a plane to NOLA, brought along some cameramen, and talked with people about how terrible it is what they are going through. After 30 minutes, get back to the plane and go to their nice hotel. Instead the Stones went about their business and donated a million so the professionals could do their jobs. I find that admirable. My wife is hotter than your wife.
Frenchy68 0 #14 September 11, 2005 QuoteThe true Hollywood way of doing things is to get your publicist to make known that you plan on doing something yourself Wrong. Your publicist would call YOU and suggest you let your "contributions" be made public. QuoteThey should have chartered a plane to NOLA, brought along some cameramen, and talked with people about how terrible it is what they are going through. After 30 minutes, get back to the plane and go to their nice hotel. That's actually the job of the POTUS, VP, Governor, Senators, etc... I am sure there are several "Hollywood" personalities who have donated money to various relief funds. They just decided not to have it known (or they have bad publicists).
