Alcohol destroys families and drunk people suck

Recommended Posts

Getting drunk is a crappy hobby.

So many seem to think it is something to brag about, even brag about it before doing it.

Alcohol sucks.
People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am

Hi Sundevil777

Got a bad hangover;)

Haven't you heard getting drunk is B|, Like cigeretts used to be.

25,000 people in the US (approx) get killed every year due to drinking and driving. Thats half the number of americans that were killed during the whole viet nam war.

I'm thinking the people who brag about getting drunk are under 25 and the people over 30ish who still get drunk daily :S plan on quitting tomorrow.

FWIW Washington state just passed a law to allow some of the state run liquor store's to sell Booze on sunday. State figure's a extra $3.5 million/yr[:/]

The only thing i disagree with about being drunk is the cost it has on the health service - costs either 1 or 2 billion on the health service every year, cos of violence and removes vital ambulance crews and hospital staff and money and equipment, which could be used for those who havent got drunk and were the innocent victim of a crime.

They should get priority over drunks when it comes to that.

people who use alcohol should not be allowed a drivers lisence. Any college student found to be using alcohol should lose financial aid (they lose it if caught smoking pot, same should be for alcohol). Any alcohol in a house that has children in it should be considered abuse and parental rights should be taken away from those parents. anyone caught with alcohol within 1000' of a school should be given a lengthy prison term. Anyone drinking and driving should be given a life sentence, no parol. Anyone who kills someone in a drunk driving accident should be given a death sentence. Any law that applies to drugs should apply to alcohol. Alcohol is one the most dangerous drugs known yet it is advertised as the hip and fun thing to do. It kills more people than all the illegal drugs combined, excluding marijuana which has never killed anyone. All advertising for alcohol should be banned. There should be an extremely high tax on alcohol to pay for all the damage that has been done due to its use. Alcohol has destroyed more families than all the illegal drugs combined. Drunk people are a danger. Alcohol should be banned at dz's. How ofton have you seen a tandem master drink all night and then do tandems seveeral hours later. An airline pilot would do time for trying to fly if they drinked untill the wee hours and then got in the cockpit. Same should apply in skydiving. Skydivers are notorious for drinking all night and then gearing up several hours later. I have heard people bitch about jumpers who smoke pot and then jump later but no one complains about hungover jumpers and tandem masters. Alcohol should be banned from all dz's and boogies. Any jumper known to have drinked within 24 hours of arriving to a dz or boogie should be banned for 24 hours. Breath test should be given to jumpers when arriving to the dz. I would feel much safer.

Well that will put an end to skydiving, since most skydivers will no longer have a way to get to the dz.

I agree with a lot of what you're saying though. Alcohol abuse is bad (especially when it involves drunk driving or heavy drinking around children), but there are a lot of people who "use alcohol" by having the occasional glass of wine with dinner, and I don't see any problem with that.

Wow... You desperately want a police state don't you? Just won't be happy till you have a breathalyzer installed in every car, iron controls imposed on every human being eh? What an amazingly diseased mind.
I consider myself a nondrinker most of the time. I get drunk about once every few years, (just did a few weeks ago to the vast amusement of all my friends, you know who you are) occasionally have 2-3 beers by the fire after a days jumping and according to you I'm a danger and shouldn't be allowed to drive.
I hope I never wind up walking the same DZ or in the same plane as you. No way can I trust a mind that sick.
Repeat after me:

Freedom is slavery.
Ignorance is strength.
Feel better?

You think you're OK to drive after 3 beers, and then attack another for having a sick mind....

Hmmmm.
When did I say I drive home right after 3 beers?
For that matter when did I say I thought I'm ok to drive after 3 beers?
You picked the wrong guy to deliberately misinterpret. I consider myself ok to drive...3, maybe 4 hours AFTER those beers. When I got drunk a few weeks ago I was quite happy to be put to bed in my jeep with a sleeping bag a glass of water and much laughter from my friends. Even so trashed I can't stand up I still know better than to get behind the wheel. I always have. Left the DZ a few hours after sunup, totally sober, feeling fine. I've never driven with so much as the tiniest buzz, ever, in my life. Simple rational self-interest. I like my jeep WITHOUT bits of human stuck in its teeth. Besides, killing people with your car is rude and uncivilized.
I practice what I preach...do you?
Live and learn... or die, and teach by example.

I'm not going to argue the one's who think they are ok to drive. But I can tell you that the bottle was the main cause for my mom and dad getting a divorce. So many alcoholics on my dad's side I rarely drink. I'm very concerned that the bottle can do for me what it did for my dad and I dont want anything like that. So many things I never got to do with my father just because he couldnt put the bottle down. I have never even thrown a baseball with my dad. Now I know some people will tell me at least my dad was around. Yeah he was, until they got divorced and then he was fairly scarce. It's a choice that some have to face and I choose to not take the same path as my dad. I do drink every now and then. During the Huricanne I had 2 jack&cokes. Now I have a bottle of Beam thats going to stay in my freezer for a long time.
If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck!

At fifty years old I think alcohol and drugs brings people face to face with their inner self, and "that's" what they don't handle well. So, they just say no. You might as well say no to life. A drug free society is intolerable and counterproductive in the long run, Shakespeare was a marijuana smoker, and so was Louie Armstrong, as was A. Conan Doyle, and in terms of what's real the only thing that doesn't make sense is intolerance . . . and it's a juxtaposition of what we really are capable of . . . Hello, is anyone out there? . . . I think totally sober people suck.

Just Say Yes . . .

I spent most of the day yesterday with a toasty buzz operating. Hey, my wedding reception was Saturday night and I had a pre-event barbecue on Friday night. I made sure we were well stocked with a 1/6 barrel keg of Sam Adams for the night.

Saturday night I'd fronted $1k for an open bar. As long as I'm paying for the booze, I'm gonna drink it. It turns out we had a few leftover bottles of champagne.

So, Sunday morning I hosted a brunch. I got some OJ and we had quiche, muffins, scones, fruit and coffee. Many of us had a mimosa - or 9. I continued with that Sam Adams throughout the afternoon. It did me right. I'm not going anywhere and fuck work for the next couple of days. I was feeling good.

I hadn't had anything to drink today. Now you've got me thinking. I'm gonna save some of that Sam Adams and open a Fat Tire for my consumption.

My wife is hotter than your wife.

I believe you're overdoing it here - perhaps a bad experience? I'm in a business where there are many die hard alcoholics - and some of them are downright nasty (steal from others to drink, cause trouble for others, etc.) and they are nothing but trash. I myself drink regularly, and am fully aware of the health consequences, but I refuse to drive an automobile for at least 1 day after imbibing. I have no family, so my actions affect no one. I have not missed work in over 10 years (and I work every day), and I certainly cause no one any trouble. That's the difference - I am responsible. But judging from what I've seen, many are not, and these are the ones that really deserve strict consequences (lawyers with 7 DUIs with a drivers license, for example).

Hi Nick

IMO some of us are talking apples and oranges.

There's a big range in the amount of time people spend looking for their inner self.

Some people end up going to the extreme of doing it 24/7 and it's called an addiction.

We're adults and should be allowed to do whatever we want B|as long as it doesn't harm others>:( Than it's to late.

I don't have a clue how to solve the problem of some people turning into addicts while others don't.

Outlaw drugs, sex and rock & roll. Hell no. How can we as a society help people from hurting themselves and the ones they loved. Reality we can't[:/]

There is nothing wrong with people getting drunk and having a good time as long as what they do doesn't inconvenience anyone else.

Same goes for all drugs, from coffee to coke.

So, if you buy coke and use it yourself, you believe that doesn't affect anyone else? (I'm asking because I disagree with your statement)
So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh
Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright
'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life
Make light!

If coke were legal, it would do less harm to others than smoking does. Since it's illegal, people can get more money for it, and thus it supports a robust criminal enterprise.

In general nothing is outlaw, just outside the law of the day, and really with your "hell no," I think you answered you're own question . . .

"Let the brothers go!"

Right. :S Now, why don't you compare the psychological affects of a long-term cocaine addiction versus smoking. Behavior vs. behavior. Which ripple affect is more destructive?

I'll submit that cocaine is far more destructive. Even if it were legal, the impairments on judgement in a cocaine addiction cause massive psychological, emotional and material tailspins compared to smoking. I've not even started on the health risks either.
