A different kind of "mouse" trap...

Rapex Anti-rape Condom invented

Rape is one of the worst things one human could do to another. Here's a line of defense I think has merit.

Its detractors are afraid it would enrage an attacker and provoke even greater harm.
Still others think it's barbaric. Um hello? How would it cause harm without harm being caused first?

What do y'all think?

you've got to ask yourself one question: 'Do I feel loquacious?' -- well do you, punk?

I suspect you'd have far more women than men go to the hospital with this thing stuck on their finger.

It's already been tested on women - it's like a tampon, so she doesn't have to stick her fingers anywhere near the barbs.

ASIDE from that, do you think it will work as a deterrent or even an effective means of identifying rapists?

Holy cow!
the "rapex" hooks onto the rapist's skin, allowing the victim time to escape and helping to identify perpetrators.

"He will obviously be too pre-occupied at this stage," she told reporters. "I promise you he is going to be too sore. He will go straight to hospital."

The device, made of latex and held firm by shafts of sharp barbs, can only be removed from the man through surgery which will alert hospital staff, and ultimately, the police.
I think a gun would be even better - just shoot the bastards.

Once word of these items gets out, the evil men will just take to starting their rape with a wood stick to test first, before commencing real live action. And that won't be easy on the woman either.

These guys are already evil enough to rape very young girls, because it lessons their chance of getting AIDS. They're not going to hesitate to commit vaginal violence in order to make sure it's safe for them.

And what happens when those barbs fall out of the latex and embed themselves inside the woman?

women had tried it for comfort and it had been tested on a plastic male model but not yet on a live man.

Volunteers? Anyone?

I couldn't imagine living in a place where rape is so common. The very fact that this has been invented should be alarming - they say the already extremely high rates are an underestimation due to all the family and acquaintance rapes that go unreported... [:/]

If I had to live in fear of such an insanely-likely daily risk of being raped, I'd pop one of these suckers in everyday and hope to God I never 'needed' it. And if I did, I'd hope it would dig in and do its job as painfully as possible for the guy who messed with me. :|

Hey men, if you got sent up the river to the pokey (no, of course you didn't do anything to deserve it), and you just knew a daily ass-pounding was waiting for you, would you use it if you could? :|

I'd assume that most familty/acquaintance rapist rape as they don't expect to get caught, how ever if they have a steal thing stuck on there shlong they would think they would get caught... so maybe it would be easier for them to kill the defender and dispose of the body then use some house hold tools to remove the barbs and keep it all a secret till there dick either heals or gets infected and falls off lol

I personally think carrying a gun or knife would be safer, a gun can shoot 2 people, this medievil weapon will only get one person, and if its a gang rape, I'd assume the other rapist may beat the crap out of the defender, then help the other attacker remove it.

and if a woman accidently left 1 in, it could reuin a relationship also if the device was outlawed it wouldnt be any different to carrying a gun or knife. so I think carrying a gun in such places is a far safer idea for the user.

There is a parallel thread in the Womens forum. So FYI I have cross posted here:

According to statistics a rape occurs every minute or less in South Africa. A large percentage of the population are uneducated and have little access to both police and medical services. It was with this in mind that this device was developed.

There is a misperception in SA amongst a sector of the population that if you have AIDS and have sex with a young virgin (i.e rape) you will be cured of the disease. A large percentage of these rape victims are under 13 yrs of age, many a lot younger.

The percentage of people with AIDS in SA is extremely high and growing by the day. I wouldn't dare to predict the percentage as it varies depending on who one speaks to. Frightening and devastating for the country both from a humanitarian and economic point of view. Some statisticians predict that by 2010 the average lifespan of a black african will be app. 30yrs of age.

Many of these young innocent victims of rape end up pregnant and give birth to babies infected with AIDS (there is very little access to anti Aids drugs in rural areas although this is omproving). There are orphanages in filled with kids with AIDS all of whom have a limited life span.

Until recently the SA government refused to acknowledge that AIDS was caused by a virus but instead blamed it on poor socioeconomic conditions (which of course play a role). Anti AIDS drugs have only recently become widely available for treatment - too little too late.

This may put things in perspective for those of you living in first world countries and perhaps give you a different viewpoint.

Food for thought. A little dfficult for a westerner to understand. It is sad that someone had to go to these lengths to develop a "gadget" to try and prevent rape. But it is reality whether we like it or not.

Cheers
Doc Rich (SA)
