Is it OK if a dog poops in your yard?

Recommended Posts

As long as the owner picks it all up I think it's ok. At least, I wouldn't mind. Now if they did it every single day and I had kids that play in the yard or something maybe I'd say no but I don't so those are my feelings now.

If they didn't pick it up I'd be pissed! I'd probably put it in a bag, follow them home and then light the bag of dog poop on fire, set it in front of the front door, ring there doorbell and run away and watch from behind a tree as they open the door and stomp the fire out. >:(

As a dog owner, I pick up if Daisy poops in someone's yard, and wouldn't have a problem with others doing the same. When a dog's gotta go, she's gotta go - kinda hard to control the "where"...

It's NOT OK to just leave it there.

you've got to ask yourself one question: 'Do I feel loquacious?' -- well do you, punk?

No prob with dogs crappin in my yard. My neighbors pick it up

Recently I've been irritated with all the (18) yellow/dead spots in MY yard near my sidewalk.

WTF? Like any self respecting red neck, I pride myself on what my hard work accomplishes in my yard.

Seeing that I'm new to this neighborhood, any suggestions on how to rationally handle the piss issue?>:(

If there is a leash law and the dogs aren't supposed to be running free, then "no", it's not okay.

If there isn't a leash law, then the dog is just doing what nature calls for. I don't like it, but I don't complain. I accept random acts of nature.

The bad one is when my neighbor cleans up their yard by throwing their dog shit over their fence into my dogless yard. That earns them a personal visit from an angry Mr. Rich. Same thing with cigarette butts. Where do they get the idea that it's okay to throw their trash in someone else's yard?

I don't understand what the leash law has to do with it. When I'm out walking my dog, and he has to go, all the leashes in the world won't change that. It's exactly why a bag is always in my pocket.

For those of you who say "no, it's never OK."

Do you have signs to that effect, so that people know to walk out in the street if they can when they're going by your yard?

If you don't, how do you expect them to know? It might not prevent ALL instances, but I'd sure bypass a house that had a sign whenever possible. "Bypass" means walking on the other side of the street, or in the street -- something that removes the possibility.

Responsible dog ownership, I think, is the key to answering your question.

I consider myself to be a responsible owner and I would NEVER consider letting my girls crap on anyone else's garden - EVER.

In fact, when out on the street, they are always on a lead and so I can control them and wouldn't let them even roam on other peoples property.

I know this is probably semantics here, but...a yard and a garden are different.

Are you saying that the owners of dogs who poop in people's yards are irresponsible?

Only if I have my kickin' boots on, or my pressure washer in hand. ;)

Though let me add that for the typical stray dog that is answering the call of the wild, I'll ignore it.

It's the lazy fucks who are walking their dog, let it shit in my yard, look at me, and then walk away. They deserve getting sprayed with the hose. A good week of sitting on my porch with pressure washer in hand drastically reduced the amount of crap in my yard. And reduced the amount of people who walk their dog through my yard.

A "leash law" means that a local ordinance requires that dogs be on leashes in the control of their owner - not running free.

That means that they shouldn't be letting their dogs shit on someone else's property. If you're cleaning up after your dog, that's good. But it would be better if you made it go somewhere besides private property.

I know what a leash law is, but walking your dog around the block, the dog may have to go. He won't go on cement, he goes along the edge of the grass, no amount of dragging or pleading will do a thing to stop a dog's GI system. Most grass along sidewalks is private property, not much to change that. I don't see what the problem is as long as the dog owner cleans up the resulting debris.

There's a big difference between a dog running around unattended crapping wherever the hell he feels like it and a dog on a leash, attended by the owner, who just happens to go on the edge of someone's property and the resulting product is removed promptly.

I walk my three dogs every morning. They are on their leashes while we walk on the sidewalk/bike trail. That distance is about 1/4 of a mile. They know they are not allowed to poop in that area. But once they are off their leashes and running down the dirt road into the open field, all bets are off:ph34r:

There's a difference between a known 'no poop zone' (our dogs only go on one part of our yard, they know that the rest is a no relief zone, whether on or off lead). But taking a long walk around a neighborhood is different. My three all go before we leave the yard, but the greyhound gets a bit of nervous crap on most walks, nothing we can do about it, he's just a very nervous dog (was racing until 2 mo ago, recent adoptee)
