Or maybe we'll see something similar to what happened in Tom Clancy's "The Dragon and The Bear"?Oh, hello again!
Zennie 0 #2 August 19, 2005 I honestly think this is mainly an economic relationship. More for Russia's benefit than China's. Russia's economy is still weak and keeping China on as an arms customer is pretty essential to them. Both countries have problems with insurgency/terrorism in breakaway areas. So I think the stated reason is probably the case. Still I agree that it is somewhat disturbing that China could be viewing it as "Taiwan practice". - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon

Trent 0 #4 August 19, 2005 Yeah, gotta crack down on those countries in the area who got rid of corrupt elections and wanted a democracy for themselves (Ukraine, Tibet, Taiwan). Best just to let the Chinese run everything. I sure hope we have some people in our intelligence agencies who can keep an eye on things over there. I think it'll be scary... that's just me though...Oh, hello again!

Funny, for some reason I remember the Chinese terrorizing the Tibetans and not the other way around.
Zennie 0 #6 August 19, 2005 QuoteI think we can pretty much say goodbye to Tibet. Tibet's been long gone. If you want to see a movie on the Chinese atrocities in Tibet, watch "Kundun". It's the story of the Dalai Lama's life. - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon
diverborg 0 #7 August 19, 2005 QuoteTibet's been long gone. That's true but the desire for separtism is still there. Ok if not Tibet, then Taiwan's gonna get it. Just my humble opinion. I hope I'm wrong and this is all some stupid misinterpretation of their motives.
jdhill 0 #8 August 19, 2005 QuoteI sure hope we have some people in our intelligence agencies who can keep an eye on things over there. It would be nice to think we had some assets like those in The Bear and the Dragon... sadly, I doubt it, and we are a long way from getting there. Frenchy68 0 #10 August 25, 2005 Stop the press: China and Russia have big armies! What's the scary part of that? Maybe I was privileged, but I kinda knew that prior to them conducting joint manoeuvres. And what do Tibet, Ukraine and Taiwan have to do with it? I'm sure the Chinese do not need Russia to stay in Tibet; the Russian are not going to invade Taiwan, nor will the Chinese move into Ukraine. Here's my POV: in 20 years, Tibet will still be a province of China; Taiwan will be reattached to Mainland China without any military intervention from the PRC; and Ukraine will be doing just fine, including its national soccer team.
