Leahy added: "Those papers that we have paint a picture of John Roberts as an eager and aggressive advocate of policies that are deeply tinged with the ideology of the far right wing of his party, then and now." Also: "Ralph Neas, president of People For The American Way, declined to comment on his own organization's plans Tuesday, but said a 'significant number of progressive organizations will soon be coming out against the Roberts nomination.'" I find it difficult to believe that Leahy could have gone through 5k pages in a day, or that his staff could have. But, Leahy got press, and he'll get plenty of "attaboys" for it. It harkens back to Kennedy beginnign the Borking of Bork: "Robert Bork's America is a land in which women would be forced into back-alley abortions, blacks would sit at segregated lunch counters, rogue police could break down citizens' doors in midnight raids, children could not be taught about evolution." Only the coming weeks will tell whether the Senate Democrats will wage war again. I also find it interesting that someone says, "'significant number of progressive organizations will soon be coming out against the Roberts nomination." To me this says, "We don't yet know why we'll be attacking him. But once we find it and get together on how to present it, we will attack him. We have to." My wife is hotter than your wife. I am somewhat shocked (though not surprised) at Leahy's comments, especially considering that he waited so long to make them. I had hoped that this nomination would make things more cordial.
