waltappel 1 #1 August 16, 2005 I've been PMing back and forth with someone who is about as much of a Hillary fan as I am. She (no, not Hillary!) sent me a link to a blog that is a nice change from the venomous anti-American crap that is constantly pumped out by the media and Hollywood types. It's a bit longish, so if you want to read just part, I recommend scrolling down to "Day 15, Mile 5,319: Brooklyn, New York and WTC". Here's the link. I hope the person who sent me the link starts posting here. She has some good stuff to say. Walt
Mike111 0 #2 August 16, 2005 I must admit, there is helluva a lot that people around the world in many countries that don't appreciate what America has done for them America is a great civilisation - not the hope of the world and all that stuff, but a nation where generally very good values are held and where democracy thrives. That mught sound like fantasy world stuff, but i think the American media and indeed some, but very few, citizens keep critiscising themselves - they are a great nation. I wish they would realise that. America certaintly isn;t the "hollywood Golden image" some people believe, but it fucking well is one of the fairest and best nations on this damn planet.- not the best (liek i stated before in a post , not going back on myself) - but certainly ONE of the best I just wish its media and individuals would realise what a greta society there are buth culturally and democraticly. If some don;t sya it i will, Thanks America.

Skyrad 0 #9 August 18, 2005 Yea, I loved that moment when he told the world Live on TV that we were in the process of nuking the 'Evil Empire' boy was that funWhen an author is too meticulous about his style, you may presume that his mind is frivolous and his content flimsy. Don't get me wrong--I did not like Reagan as president. I thought he spent waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much money. The two things I did like about him a lot were that he really was a GREAT orator and he came from a time when it was actually ok to love your country and publicly say so--even the Hollywood crowd. Frenchy68 0 #11 August 18, 2005 Quotehe came from a time when it was actually ok to love your country and publicly say so--even the Hollywood crowd. I would argue that things are still the same. Let's not confuse patriotism with nationalism. One can love one's country while still disagree with its administration. Being critical of a system, if constructively done, only helps improving the said system. The beauty of the US is that throughout its history, there were critics, some of whom helped improving some aspects of the society we now love. Extremism from wither side is usually more destructive than constructive. But criticism opens debates, which, hopefully, can lead to the bettering of our society. They key concept, though, is having some sort of constructive dialog. I often target the Hollywood crowd because they so publicly spit on the country that has given them the opportunities that led to the fame and wealth they enjoy. Rather than giving something back, many of them choose to belittle and berate. There are exceptions, though. They just don't get a lot of press, with the exception of "The Governator".
