billvon 3,111 #26 August 11, 2005 >Perhaps it's meant as a concert in memoriam. We're not talking about a memorial, or a moment of silent reflection. We're talking about a country music concert. People dancing, yelling, singing. It would be a great way to commemorate Secretary's Day, but it's about as appropriate as a 9/11 celebration as a Jerry Seifeld monologue would be. "What's the deal with all these dead soldiers?" I know it's tempting to support your party against their 'enemies' but I would hope that common decency would trump such considerations. Almost 2000 of our troops are dead, and tens of thousands have been maimed. We shouldn't hire a concert promoter to celebrate that. It shows a tremendous amount of disrespect for their sacrifice. Lindsey 0 #27 August 11, 2005 And what I just realized, I'm kind of ashamed to say, is that I'm starting to be numb to it....to lose the outrage. I certainly hope that I am in the minority here. It's absolutely, obviously, not an event to celebrate....nor are the events that it spurred. I wish as many people were up in arms about it today as there were a couple years ago. linz-- A conservative is just a liberal who's been mugged. crwtom 0 #28 August 11, 2005 Quote If a concert on 9/11 bothers you, don't go. If Joe Blow from across the street throws a dance and grill party to comemorate the Oklohoma City bombing or Pear Harbor that is one thing. Ignoring a certain amount of disturbed nut cases around us is part of living in a society with free expression and all that. This, however, is supposedly THE national event, taking place in the national capital, government organized and representative for the country. So basically we ARE ALL part of the event, and the event IS repersentative of us. There is no "if you don't like it stay home" - there's only "if you don't like it find yourself another country". The people whose judgment led to this fucked-up and convoluted idea are the ones in power to use the same judgement to start wars, to put hundreds of thousands in harms way, and to handle the security of hundereds of millions. Gravitymaster 0 #29 August 11, 2005 I think it's OK to have some type of Memorial Service, but I agree this is a little over the top with the Country Music etc.
AlexCrowley 0 #30 August 11, 2005 Without country music you cannot have songs about US going out and kicking ass defiantly. TV's got them images, TV's got them all, nothing's shocking.
juanesky 0 #31 August 11, 2005 The thing is, your comments are not a joke about them, you said the kid is in heaven. I think if someone is embarrassed here it should be you as you always try to say things based on no facts, for example, US armed forces policies, training and justice, to name few...... Edited to add: And by the way, I did a BBQ on that day, it must have hurt you. At least I celebrate the fact that the allies did stop the Japanese from slaughtering more millions. Go ahead, check on what they did on WWII, the experiments and genocide wherever they captured ground......It might surprise you to find out they exterminated millions of people..."According to some of the conservatives here, it sounds like it's fine to beat your wide - as long as she had it coming." -Billvon

rushmc 23 #35 August 11, 2005 Quote>Your comment illustrates why the "left" doesn't have a positive >message for the American people. And, unfortunately, your reply demonstrates that some people will defend anything 'their' side does. Celebrating 9/11 with a country music concert is offensive no matter which side comes up with the idea. What's next? Having a national holiday for Pearl Harbor? Having a Hiroshima and Nagasaki "big blow out" concert series? How about a Gitmo Interrogation Memorial Day? Think on it and I suspect you'll realize that this is one of those cases where party unity is less important than basic decency. >The glass is either half-empty or half-full Bill. Not even the most ardent Bush supporter could claim that 9/11 was a half full glass. As such, you should have given the link like you did and nothing to be worried about, just clarification. A barbeque on the weekend can just be dinner, it doesn't have to be a tribute to radiation blasts, but some people are always looking for ways to be offended. Like walking up to someone in at work, in front of coworkers, and congratulating them for not beating their wife last month. True, but the implication is on purpose and blindsiding. But this isn't work and once you post something, it's there to be abused by anyone who doesn't like your politics. So take the heat or get out of the kitchen. You, obviously, will take the heat. Rehmwa, don´t let Juanesky fool you, he knows what he said and he is just back pedaling now. That is what happens when he posts without thinking which is almost everytime he posts. rasmack: So, today is the 60th anniversary of the bomb over Nagasaki. Was it necessary? 74.000 killed. 75.000 wounded. Was it worth it? markd_nscr986: Yes..........it was worth it.......... I commemorated the occasion by watching Juaneky: And I did a barbecue!!!!
