This guy is 10 times worse than Idi Amin ever was and it is only getting worse. His megalomania is growing inversly to his country's demise into abject poverty and misery. At least the Chinese have just turned down his request for a multi-billion dollar loan. Alas.... Mbeki and his quiet diplomacy has approved a 6 billion dollar loan (subject to some conditions). JohnRich 4 #4 August 1, 2005 Just saw a PBS TV special covering Zimbabwe and Botswana last week. Botswana is called the "gem of Africa", because it has democratic elections, leading to low corruption. They also practice Capitalism as well, giving relative prosperity and abundance of food and goods. Zimbabwe, on the other hand is desending into chaos, as land from white settlers is confiscated, broken up, and given to blacks who don't know how to farm. His recent news item was to tear down the slums, so the city would look nicer. But he didn't bother to find replacement housing for the poor that lived there... So... people are fleeing Zimbabwe in droves, and Botswana, while sympathetic, can't handle the influx without destroying their own country. So they've instituted strict border security to keep them all out. What a mess. Democracy, capitalism and private property are what all of Africa needs to solve their problems for the long term.
