Tasers or deadly force?

Recommended Posts

I know less about explosives than I do about Tasers, so if anyone knows better, please correct me.

But here's my hypothetical- if the person is a suspected or known bomber, taking them down with a Taser is one of the worst things the police can do.

You take an explosive substance that is triggered by current, not heat (eg c4?), add a 50,000 volt charge from a Taser, and you just might get an undesired big BOOM! [:/]

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't force or shots be a smarter alternative to Taser's in this instance? I am not promoting the use of lethal force, but a disabling shot/shots (instead of say, 5-8 to the head) might be a better option than using a Taser that might very well set any explosives off.

You are correct. It is possible, and very likely that a taser would in fact detonate the bomb. Bean bag round loaded shotguns, OC spray (ie mace or pepper spray) or other such less lethal weapons are also less desirable as a goal orientated subject (ie suicide bomber) would be able to focus through such tactics, if only long enough to detonate the bomb. If you doubt this, then why do police forces train there officers to fight through the effects of OC Spray. If they can do it, any one else can too. The only effective way to disarm a suicide bomb is the same way you disarm any bomb, shut down the ignition switch. Unfortunaltly, when the ignition switch is the human brain, there is little left but lethal force.

And please, no "how bout shooting him in the hand/arm/leg" lines. All I gotta say is bite switch.

Of course in the case of a bomber with a "release " type switch ,lethal force may also cause the bomb to detonate.

Doesn't really matter though as it appears the only lethal force utilized by the police so far was against an innocent ,unarmed man.

I guess in the state of a release detonation switch, the bomb is gonna go off anyway, whether some one tries to stop him or not.

There are wolves in this world. They are capable of incredible levels of violence, and are willing to use that violence for no other reason than for violence to exist.

There are the sheep, that are peaceful. They wish no harm to anyone. These are who the wolf preys upon.

There are the sheepdogs. The sheep dog, like the wolf, is capable of incredible levels of violence. The sheep are sometime uneasy about the sheepdogs, as they can appear to be of the same breed as the wolf. When the wolf is away, the sheep sometimes fear the sheepdog, believing the violence will be unleashed on them.

The sheepdog, however, cares deeply for the sheep. He wishes no harm to them.

But when the wolf comes... reaction is quick. There is little time to debate what may or may not be. Reaction must be with the knowledge at hand.

The sheep only have the luxury of looking back because of the sheepdog.

I think a wolf would eat a sheepdog for breakfast.

I don't think sheepdogs care deeply for sheep, cos I've seen them nip them to make them do where they don't want to go.

I'm not a wolf or a sheepdog, and I don't like being thought of as a sheep, guarded only to be stripped of my wool and put in a mutton pie.

Which at the time the police didn't know. He was in a house that was being watched. When told to stop, he ran. Not only that, but he jumped a ticket barrier (not the easiest thing to do), continued running, then tried to get on a tube.

Under the current level of threat, the chosen location for previous attacks and his failure to stop when asked.. what part of of that makes him clearly innocent?

What if he had been carrying a bomb and then managed to detonate it on that tube?
