valcore 0 #1 July 29, 2005 I know it is a big topic but I wanted to know what eveyone thinks about the WAR in Iraq and the military. The most terrifying words in the English language are: ‘I'm from the government and I'm here to help’. ~Ronald Reagan 30,000,000 legal firearm owners killed no one yesterday. rehmwa 2 #5 July 29, 2005 4 of 6 negative choices. Gee, what do think the poster's intent is: put marines in a negative light? or dilute the negative responses to put them in a positive light? I don't think of "Marines" as anything one way or the other (except as a rather successful subdivision of the US Navy which we could sell for a rather tidy profit ) I do know that about every "Marine" that I have had the privilege of knowing as an individual has been an upstanding person with a real commitment to his duty and to protecting those around them - whether on duty or not. So generalizing all Marines by a poll like this is doing a disservice to each individual in the corp. I'll give each one the benefit of the doubt until they prove otherwise - then that person will be judged, but not all the rest. ... jdhill 0 #6 July 29, 2005 Quote I wanted to know what eveyone thinks about the WAR in Iraq and the military. One's opinion of Marines has very little to do with what someone thinks about the war in Iraq, or the military in general. Based on your profile, I' guessing that you are either Navy or Marine Corp... Are you seeking validation? lawrocket 3 #7 July 29, 2005 Marines are average Americans. It shames me to read and hear many people who claim that the Marines are staffed by below-average Americans in discussing the poor and minroties. Marines on duty become above-average Americans. Off duty, they are subect to the same issues and problems of every American. For most, joining the Marines is not necessarily a patriotic move, but rather a move designed to improve their options, choices and chances for a better life. So they take a job that is difficult, uncomfortable and dangerous. Of course, ths is true of other banches of the service. Army and Marines are most comparable. But I gotta admit, I loved my stint as an Army officer at Camp Pendleton because I merely needed to show my average troops the average Marine to teach them about what professionalism really is. Yeah, I've got a soft spot for enlisted Marines and Army soldiers. You'll never hear me criticiize any enlisted (until they get to E-9) for their actions. I will criticize everyone from O-1 on up for any failures or problems that occur during operations. Support the enlisted. I've figured out that many times, the public is the ONLY support those enlisted guys get. My wife is hotter than your wife.

Darius11 12 #9 July 29, 2005 Not a reply to you funks. Didn’t pick any thing on the poll. You can’t judge a whole group of people with any blanket statement. I am sure there is many good guys who should be respected for their sacrifices and service to our country and there might be a few bad ones. There is good and bad people everywhere.I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not." - Kurt Cobain
