Tonto 1 #3 July 28, 2005 That's interesting. While Bill Gates complains that China is making knock-offs of Windows, Mr Kalashnikov complains (correctly if you list of manufacturers is real) that US companies are making knock-offs of his AK patent, shown here..http://kalashnikov.guns.ru/patent.html A local newspaper quoted him as saying only one US manufacturer was licenced to produce the AK-47. I think there's some intelectual property abuse going on here. tIt's the year of the Pig.
AlexCrowley 0 #4 July 28, 2005 What's weirder is that there are a lot of AK-47 inspired designs and ripoffs out there, and have been for years and I've not heard about Mr K getting upset. The Times story may shed a little more light as it seems that its Gov sponsored large scale cloning, which would upset me. BG's an idiot, a very very rich idiot, but from day one (his version of Basic) he's been a money grubbing dope who seems to have some real issues regarding property and ownership, maybe the kids at school kept taking his lunch money. Do weapons patents work internationally? Is russias patent system more insane than the US version? (my god, I could yammer on about that more than people talk about muslims here). Kill Mickey Mouse. TV's got them images, TV's got them all, nothing's shocking.
Tonto 1 #5 July 28, 2005 Yeah, they mentioned a few "inspired" clones, like the Galil, but he's not worried about what people did during the Cold war and freely admits that many east block countries and former members of the USSR continue to produce his weapon and pay nothing - but that doesn't mean that the US should allow what they complain about other countries doing. I do see his point. He stole a few ideas from the Germans (like everyone else) and made a name for himself. He just wants a slice of the pie! tIt's the year of the Pig. JohnRich 4 #6 July 28, 2005 Depends upon what you mean by "U.S. manufactured"... Import laws are very strange. Many guns can't be imported whole, because the receiver (the main frame) is banned. So they break them down into parts and send all the parts over except the receiver. U.S. manufacturers then make their own recievers, and re-attach all the foreign parts to them. Voila! A legal "U.S. made" AK rifle. Pick up a copy of "Shotgun News" at your news stand, and you'll find plenty of ads for AK rifles from all corners of the planet. http://www.shotgunnews.com/

AMax 0 #8 July 29, 2005 AK-74 is way better than 47 but even 74 is outdated. The 100's are new generation. BTW, this is what i used to use http://kalashnikov.guns.ru/models/ka100.html

JohnRich 4 #10 August 8, 2005 QuoteYeah but they both suck ballistically speaking Yup. I don't know of anyone who uses that cartridge for accuracy competition. Not even for short range stuff.
slug 1 #11 August 8, 2005 Hi Amax Ever get to shoot a RPG? There seems to be a lot of them available in bad places. So they must be inexpensive. So what if their not accurate. Shock value would keep most people far away. R.I.P.
AMax 0 #12 August 9, 2005 Yes. Why? Do you need one to protect your house from strangers?

JohnRich 4 #14 August 10, 2005 QuoteQuoteYeah but they both suck ballistically speaking Can you elaborate that? I would imagine he's talking about poor accuracy and poor long-range capability. 7.62 x 39 cartridges aren't known for either of those.
