rwieder 0 #1 July 26, 2005 As most of you know, i make my living searching for, and retrievieng hydrocarbons. I'm all about being energy independent. But BS like this (see URL) is hardly condusive to achievieng this objective. Even though i've traveled the globe and have been in many foriegn countries drilling for oil & natural gas i have always felt like we, as americans could, if we wanted to, be energy independent. I really can't stand depending on other countries for our energy needs. See what you think about the article. Go Here P.S. storm1977 0 #2 July 26, 2005 people just don't get it.... They same ones opposing some of the measures in the bill are the same ones who 4 years ago were ranting on how we needed to cut ties with the middle east. Alias 0 #3 July 26, 2005 So why is the US so hard headed when it comes to alternitive energy sources? Greed? Lack of technology? Or just lack of policies to inforce new habits? We better be keeping Mexico and Canada in good relations with us. We depend on them far to much right now. Carpe Diem

If you read the energy Bill you will see, there are measures to get new technologies for alternative energy. However, as the article says... Senetors and Represenatives are ripping this thing apart. I would guess it is due to Special Interest groups and lobbiests. ----------------------------------------------------- Sometimes it is more important to protect LIFE than Liberty

And I bet the list includes both conservative (typ) and liberal (typ) SI groups (any group not on the plan is likely all over it with complaints and calling in whatever favors they might have to discredit it) ... SpeedRacer 1 #13 July 27, 2005 WTF is up with MSNBC's website? Everytime I go there the frickin page takes forever to load, and then re-loads itself a bunch of times. I don't seem to have this problem with any other news website. Anyone else notice this? SpeedRacer 1 #14 July 27, 2005 Actually there was another thread on here discussing alt. energy sources, and why don't people buy hybrids and/or cars that run on biodiesel etc. And most of the posters on here complained about how much it would cost to buy a new car like that. So that is why we can't get off our petroleum habit. If we do, its the people themselves who have to change. The average Joe & Jane Sixpacks. Yeah, it would cost $ to go out & buy a biodiesel/hybrid, but until WE AS A PEOPLE just suck it up & start buying low/alt-energy vehicles, things won't change. wmw999 2,589 #18 July 27, 2005 We'll wait until we have very very little left (after all, there's still room before the credit limit, right?). Then we'll like the people who suddenly realize that a $30,000 credit limit with a $25,000 income isn't such a cool thing after all. He is an OLD SCHOOL conservative. The stuff about a smaller government, preserving America's interest first, no welfare state, etc. Buchanan views the Neo-Cons as Liberals in Conservtive clothing. IE, they want a HUUUGE GOVERNMENT BUDGET (but they want it to pay for going around the world & imposing American hegemony). Basically, Neo-Cons = Imperialists. Which is very expensive, and runs 180 degrees counter to the idea of a small government that leaves everyone alone.
