According to the BBC website, the man shot and killed was a Brazilian with no ties to the bombing. The Met police and Scotland Yard are issuing apologies and calling it a tragedy.

Looks like he was running because someone not in a uniform was chasing him with a gun. Imagine that.

I thought the cops in the UK didn't have guns?? or well...I do remember them carrying them last time I was in heathrow...I'm so confused.

They are VERY fond of the MP-5 now. Especially in the airports. ;)

MMmmmmm....MP-5....B|B|B|

Wish I'd bought one before the 1994 GCA...[:/]

I've been debating this situation with a co-worker. He's of the opinion that the dude shouldn't have run, but I'm of the opionion that cops/jails from where ever he came from are so unspeakably horrible that he thought he had a better chance by running for it. Live free or die.

This is a shame. I'm sorry it happened.

The Mayor of London, Ken Livingstone, said: "The police acted to do what they believed necessary to protect the lives of the public.

"This tragedy has added another victim to the toll of deaths for which the terrorists bear responsibility."

What does UK law say about the defence "I shot him because i thought he was a terrorist running away from me"?

Let the hand-wringing and second-guessing begin:S:S

Second-guessing is no worse then jumping to conclusions before all the facts are in...

And now that the facts are in, it turns out that he really wasn't a suicide bomber. So the hand-wringing and second-guessing were justified.

I believe that the average street cop does not carry a gun. But they have special "armed response units" which keep an evil gun in a locked box in a car, which can be called upon when needed.

So when an unarmed street cop is facing down an attacker with a knife, he says; "Pardon me, but would you please sit tight and do nothing for 10 minutes while I call my supervisor to authorize an armed response unit to respond to this scene?"

You just can't have every cop carrying a gun - someone might get hurt!

Perhaps you just should move your ass out of the US from time to time?

That might perhaps, perhaps, perhaps, enlighten your mind a little bit more :S

You do not know anything about other countries, cultures.
Culture? Do you even know how to write it?

The average street cop until today was doing a god job w/o using any gun. Thx to the  king, they have to learn a little bit.

All that is required for lethal force to be legally employed in self defence is that the force is used to defend your own or another's life and that it is reasonable under all of the circumstances.

Those circumstances include the fact that the day before, 4 blokes tried to blow up 3 trains and a bus in suicide attacks, they're still at large and 2 weeks ago 4 blokes killed 56 people and wounded hundreds others in an identical attack on 3 trains and a bus... oh, and that this guy was running towards a packed train after failing to stop when challenged by police who had been told to trail him because he was a terrorist suspect.

I'm no jury but...

I'd have to go with what the Brit lawyer said. When you don't have a lot of time to decide, you make the best decision you can.

The mark of a good leadership is that there armed people don't get into too many situations that require that kind of quick decision, and that there's a constructive review of what happened.

Sometimes shit happens. I remember reading an article by a guy who was arrested and held for nearly a month because he looked like an accused rapist. He was really pissed, until he saw the rapist -- they could have been twins, and they drove the same kind and color of car, too. Sometimes shit happens. But you try really hard to know your situations so that no one is in the shit's way as much as possible.

Hey John, How do you like being called ignorant, in a nice way?

Oh, I can take it. I think readers here have seen enough of Cristalsabine to know what to make of her postings. I'll put my statements up against hers for critical review and comparison, any day.

Hello sweetie-pie. Prepare to be humbled once again, by this ignorant Texas redneck.

See these:

Ahhhh, you see? Cowboy Johnny really does know what he's talking about. And he can even spell it.

As for the latter part of my post; that was sarcasm, which I think everyone recognized as such, except perhaps you.

Have a nice day, while you lick your wounds once again.
(When are you going to learn not to challenge me in a debate?)
