Michele 1 #26 July 18, 2005 Quoteit distorts the real purpose.. Narcimund's purpose is to demonstrate that amendments have been made that, when introduced, were against the popular opinion, but have since become the norm and considered 'rights.' Consider this Chapter 3 (I think) in his long term proposal in changing the hearts and minds of those of us in SC about gay marriage. (And no, it's no assumption; it's a conclusion made by careful attention to people's posting styles and habits, and an understanding of the causes they are passionate about...) Nothing against you, LJ; as you know, I consider you a pretty decent guy. But I think that this whole saga is a tad silly. Besides, in CA, you can have a civil union, complete with a 6 month waiting period for the dissolution of such if one is registered. The legal aspects of marriage, therefore, are already established here. So come on down!!! (Besides, then we can jump together!) Gravitymaster 0 #29 July 18, 2005 Quotewell that may be true.. there arent many here who are interested in actual discussion, they simply want reinforcement of their existing beliefs..therefore anything that challenges that belief is classified as 'uninteresting' or 'arsinine' Actually many discussions that are boring and uninteresting, usually are asinine. Particularly if the whole point is to create some self absorbed, neurotic, pity-party. I find there is absolutely nothing I can learn from such a discussion and refused to get dragged into one. So pardon me while I reinforce my existing beliefs by avoiding those I deem asinine.
ladyskydiver 0 #30 July 18, 2005 QuoteQuote I seriously hope you're joking, Narci! What's the joke? I asked what people think. Aren't the results interesting? Narci, I've seen your posts, and you're an intelligent man. The way this post/poll is worded is almost a troll. If you are truly trying to debate something, I know you can do a lot better putting a post together to debate a topic. Right now, I'll place money (and I don't bet) on the fact that some people have marked the poll just to be sarcastic and others feel that way so the results are totally unreliable.Life is short! narcimund 0 #32 July 18, 2005 QuoteI just see this as a lame attempt at trolling. This semi-automatic reflex of name calling is not important enough to respond to. However, it's just barely noisy enough that I think I'll leave this statement so people know I'm intentionally ignoring it. narcimund 0 #33 July 18, 2005 Michelle, you get points for quality of reasoning. You're paying far more attention than anyone else. However, you're inflating my passion and optimism. I'm not so silly as to think I'll convince anyone of anything. Nor is my purpose simply promoting gay marriage. This is more wide-ranging than that. Again, I think it's funny that so many posts are about ME and so few are about the topic or the ramifications. But then, whenever I post anything on this website the thread seems to instantly turn into narcimund-bashing and narcimund-defending. Such power I seem to wield! That's very odd of course, but who am I to deny people their pleasures? Carry on. First Class Citizen Twice Over

kelpdiver 2 #35 July 18, 2005 QuoteI would imagine that 33% are being sarcastic, because this is an asinine question. The question is no more assinine than the average poll here. As for the answers, I'm afraid I don't believe the average no was meant to be sarcastic.

rhys 0 #38 July 19, 2005 QuoteThe nineteenth amendment gave women the right to vote. ah actually, kate sheppard, an new zealander campaigned to give woman the vote here in new zealand early last century, the first country in the modern world to do so. Nightingale 0 #39 July 19, 2005 QuoteI would imagine that 33% are being sarcastic, because this is an asinine question. Sounds to me like this was prompted by a gay marriage thread in which someone commented that women shouldn't have been voting around the time the amendment was passed.
