Brits to leave Iraq?

Recommended Posts

While calling it "conclusive proof" of a plan to withdraw troops from Iraq right away, The Mail on Sunday fails to provide any actual text from the document, nor any inkling of where they got it. We'll see what happens, but for now my bullshit meter is pegged.

The story reads like shallow editorial propoganda. Link to actual article:

A top-secret paper written by British Defence Secretary John Reid for Prime Minister Tony Blair reveals many of the 8500 British troops in Iraq are likely to be brought home within three months.

It's whats going to happen when the US leaves anyway - lets get serious - you really think the US forces can prevent a "civil" war once out? Or is your solution to stay at all costs?

Even at this point, you still will not reconize the huge part Iraqi oil reserves are playing in US stratigy?

Interesting

And don't forget the great results for democracy that the democratic election provided for the US

The UIA, which took majority, includes the Supreme Council of the Islamic Revolution in Iraq (SCIRI) and the Dawa Party, both of which are sectarian Shiite parties that seek to establish some form of Islamic state.

A good question at this point is if Bush accepts a vote which provides a democratic result, but not the guy he "planned" to have at the top.

The plan is to stay until the Iraqi Govt. is stabilized and able to defend itself. Once that is acheived, I will be the first one calling for our troops to come home. Troop removal is going to be a slow process over a period of time and it may require sending some troops back in if insurgency swells.

Of course I'm aware of the importance of oil in this scenario. On the other hand, how would you like it if you woke up tomorrow morning and had to sit in line for 4 hours to get your ration of 3 gallons of gas, or had to pay triple the price you pay now for gasoline or textiles made from oil?
