Skyrad 0 #1 June 27, 2005 Monday June 27, 03:49 PM Belgium to ban Boy Scouts from killing chickens BRUSSELS (Reuters) - Belgium plans to stop Boy Scouts from slaughtering chickens and other small animals at summer camp, despite Scout leaders' defence of the practice as a lesson in wilderness survival. The Health Ministry said in a statement issued on Monday that one Scout group had refused to stop teaching its lads how to carry out the bloody task even after complaints from parents. "These kids have to be taught how to kill an animal in order to feed themselves," the ministry quoted one of the group's representatives as saying. However, the ministry took the view that the Scouts learnt nothing from using animals in this way. Gawain 0 #2 June 27, 2005 I wonder what all the complaining parent think about where the chicken they eat comes from? They've obviously never seen a chicken farm, or slaughter house. The Boy Scouts are humane by comparison...no sh*t. Imagine hundreds, thousands of chickens being hung by their feet on a conveyor chain entering one end of a cutting machine, exiting the other with their throats cut, but heads still attached which their fluids drain out their neck. These people are going to wish for these skills if we ever have another massive conflict where food and fuel supplies are cut off 100%.So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! Ah, thats a BIG part of wilderness survival. Whats next, not going to teach them to build a fire? QuoteThe Health Ministry said in a statement issued on Monday that one Scout group had refused to stop teaching its lads how to carry out the bloody task even after complaints from parents. Those parents are twits. I hope they don't eat meat of any kind then. Next they will not learn the proper ways to care for and use a knife or build a fire.... JohnRich 4 #5 June 27, 2005 Maybe instead of a weekend Jamboree and campout, they'll just go on a field trip to McDonalds and order some chicken McNuggets... I suppose that they've also concluded that snipe hunts are cruel to both the animals and the scout-catchers. Save the Snipes!
