Ahhhh...'give us the classified information or else...'

Disgusting. Republicans are showing no backbone on this one right now. I'm wondering where the writer of the article gets off on the 'seldom used' phrase. Perhaps Bill Lan Lee and Charles Pickering don't ring a bill with the author.

It's all bullshit obstructionism.

They expect us to believe that if they get the classified info that their objections to Bolton will suddenly vanish?

Hardly.

If anything, they'll just cherry-pick a few things to further bolster their objections. And then they'll say then need yet another delay to analyse the documents...

So this really has nothing at all to do with making their decision. That's already made, in the negative. It's just a lame excuse to further delay Bush's appointments.

They lost the election. The winner gets to nominate who he wants to run departments. The Dems need to grow up and take it like men.

Please like the Reps played nice during BCs two terms. Both sides do this and to say that one is a poor loser is BS. Didn't Jesse Helms block every single one of BCs Black judicial canidates to the 4th circuit court of appeals. Look at what happened to the current dean of Harvard Law School. Both sides play dirty, and you think the Reps are cleaner than the dems. :S

The Republicans, in comparison with their democratic brethren, do play nice in many regards with regards to nominations.

Yes, both sides do goat-fuck-stupid things with holding up judicial nominations, 'tis true. I challenge you, however, to find the Democratic nominee who was smeared as either Bob Bork, John Ashcroft, Chuck Pickering, or John Bolton has been. You can't. Period. A Republican congress confirmed a former ACLU lawyer to the bench. If anyone were to assert that a Democratic congress would EVER confirm an NRA lawyer to even an appellate court then I'd urge them to seek psychiatric care.

The republicans need to grow a backbone with regards to nominees and fight back - dirty and hard - just like they are attacked. If they were to make the lies told about their nominees political liabilities then we could have serious debate about nominees vice the three-ring-circus we now frequently encounter.

Both sides screw each other with equal zeal. Look at what happened to the dean of Harvard Law school.

Bush's judicial nominees aren't Saints. Neither were some of Clintons. Pickering got what he deserved, do a little research on him. The 5th circuit court of appeals even said that Pickering violated fundementals laws when making some of his decesions and overturned several of his cases. This is coming from one of the most conservative appeals courts in the nation. This court had three vacancies and the Reps refused to hear any of BCs nominees for fear that he might fill the vacancies. This is even after the court declared a state of emergency due to the vacancies.

How many of Clintons nominees got hearings? Look up Jorge Rangel, and Enrique Moreno. At least Ws nominees are getting a chance.

Two pieces.
One is that it's partly bullshit obstructionism. The second, though, isn't that all objections will disappear. The intent is to get enough information to make the decision and the feeling is that some of the information required to make a complete decision is classified.

There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. (tbrown)

Sorry, I don't believe that, dear Wendy. They've already made their decisions - against him. No amount of new data is going to change their opinions and make hard-line Democrats vote for him. All they hope to gain is more dirt with which to smear him to bolster their objections, and more delay to prevent a vote on his nomination.

Call me cynical!
