smiles 0 #1 June 2, 2005 Muncipal Provincial Auto Crime Team's (IMPACT) in my city (Vancouver, B.C.) has just launched their website which includes audio/video clips of everything that is said and done by the suspects inside the bait car. Talk about a program that makes sense, and is getting rave reviews. Bait Cars are parked in high auto crime areas and left there, sometimes for an hour, other times for days. Once the vehicle is stolen, police are immediately dispatched to the moving bait car. Once police are following the bait car, the engine is disabled remotely and the suspects are arrested. gotta luv it!! watching the audio/vid clips crack me up!! http://www.baitcar.com -does your city have a program like this?? SMileseustress. : a positive form of stress having a beneficial effect on health, motivation, performance, and emotional well-being.
Travman 6 #2 June 2, 2005 I'm all for it, they should go to gaol, etc. But it sounds like its bordering on entrapment.
ScottishJohn 25 #3 June 2, 2005 Then that would mean any car parked on a public road was bordering on entrapment if a thief stole it and got caught. Stealing is stealing. We all know that stealing a car is against the law , it doesn't matter if it's a bait car or a car owned by a member of the public.---------------------------------------------------------------------- If you think my attitude stinks you should smell my fingers
chuckbrown 0 #4 June 2, 2005 Quote But it sounds like its bordering on entrapment. Entrapment involves someone doing something they wouldn't have otherwise done but for the actions of the police. Providing a criminal with the opportunity to commit a crime isn't entrapment if the criminal would have otherwise commited the crime, i.e., stolen a car anyway. dbattman 0 #5 June 2, 2005 Instead of disabling the car and arresting the thief, how about tracking it to the chop shop and busting the whole ring?
BillyVance 35 #6 June 2, 2005 They should make a TV series out of it! "Mediocre people don't like high achievers, and high achievers don't like mediocre people." - SIX TIME National Champion coach Nick Saban
mr2mk1g 10 #7 June 2, 2005 A spark plug fitted inside the petrol tank would be much cheaper than a tracking device.
Hooknswoop 19 #8 June 2, 2005 QuoteA spark plug fitted inside the petrol tank would be much cheaper than a tracking device. In the short term, yes, but long term, i.e. having to get a new car everytime instead of being able to re-use them, a tracking device is a lot cheaper. mr2mk1g 10 #9 June 2, 2005 hmmm... you're right... what about if we take into account court time, prosectuion time, police time and jail time plus the costs of their re-offending?

Yes but there are a surplus of cars avaliable from the Durg Bust Seizures. They're already "pimped-out".---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are.
