Steel 0 #79 May 26, 2005 QuoteQuoteUsing the term “African-American” connects us to a time when we were Kings, Doctors, Craftsmen, Teachers , Leaders, and Free. But my problem with that theory is this- What if you are Black, and your heritage is not African????? A friend of mine from work is Black- not African. So he checks Other on the forms. In America you need to remember, that not all BLACKS came from Africa- not all BLACKS need to remind themselves of a time when they were Kings, Doctors, etc... Not all BLACKS trace thie lineage to a time of slavery in the US. Some BLACKS, are just that- BLACK. The confusion starts when people try to equade what continent somebody is from with Nationality or race. Actually ALL black people DO come from Africa. But all Africans are not black. I am not referring to the South Africans who ancestors were European settlers. They are just people I could point to for fun tearing up somebody Afican-American political correctness. I am referring to the people from North Africa, Morocco, Egypt, Tunisia, etc. Their race is not easy to decifer. Some are lighter some are darker, none are blond but almost all can pass for Sicilians (who by most people are considered white). Different races can be attributed to different climates. Do any of you think its a coincidence that black people whose skin constantly produces melanin regardless of their sun exposure just happen to be from the hottest continent on the planet. Is it also a mystery that all the yellow people with naturally squintting eyes all come from the Orient or that the people with the lightest skin tone in the world descend from the colder places. Oh and on a final not that King, doctor, craftsmen, etc... thing is always funny to hear. Because the reality is that the slaves were already slaves in Africa that were sold by their own people. Before blaming the "white devils" for the problems black people have in the U.S., Africa or anywhere else in the world think about it a little. Which of the 7 continents hosts the poorest countries by any standard? In that continent which country has the highest standard of living? Is it one where the "white devils" colinized? hint, hint (Union of South Africa) Or is it one of the Middle Eastern countries that has oil money also coming from the "white Devils"? Lets look at the rest of the world. The French went into Algieria and the went to Haiti, how does the Standard of living compare between those two. Spain when went to the Domincan Republic and Puerto Rico. The Dominican Republic is about 90% black? Puerto Rico is mostly mixed with a significant white (Spanish) portion? How does the standard of living between these two countries compare? I remember from my history of Cuba class that it was mentioned that the Cubans who came in the 60's had kids who were earning significantly higher incomes than the average Americans. But that the ones coming in the 80's and later (of a tendency to a darker shade) were living below the poverty level. The funny thing is that my liberal teacher cited this as proof of American racism. I say "what a crock".If I could make a wish, I think I'd pass. Can't think of anything I need No cigarettes, no sleep, no light, no sound. Nothing to eat, no books to read.

Actually there are no countries in Antarctica. But atleast we can assume you know what the 7 continents are. That brings it down to that last 6. You sorta proved my point....they weren't just slaves they were Slave Owners, Kings, Queens, Teachers, etc . In the USA for the most part they were sold or born a slave and most likley to die a slave. and so were your children and grandchildren. happythoughts 0 #85 May 27, 2005 The main reason that being ?-American doesn't make sense is that it infers some cultural heritage. Most Americans actually lack an identifiable culture of any kind. If a 30 yo person from New York moved to Texas and started to claim to be a Southerner or Texan, people would laugh. Their culture/identity is that of a New Yorker, not a Southerner. Same for continental moves. I know a woman whose father is from Kenya. The Kenyans view her as a person of Western European background because she grew up in the US. They did not regard her as African. People whose ancestors arrived from another country 100 years ago, need to get over it.
