larskjargaard 0 #1 May 18, 2005 most of the people within my peer group practice no religion. I don't know if they are spiritual people or not but I know that have no use for organized faith. I guess that my personal society is a non faith society. Does anyone know if there are similar groups like this that existing in the islamic cultures around the world? rhys 0 #2 May 18, 2005 dunno about the islamic cultures, why does it matter? but i am not into religon either. as far as i'm aware the sun created 'all' in our solar system either through a colision or explosion. and something else created the sun, probably an even larger explosion. the universe is infinate. no religon seems to acknowledge this or can come up with a realistic solution to, how things have came to be? religon seems to be a waste of time, energy and creates conflict due to the contrast of the different beliefs. just my thoughts"When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix
waltappel 1 #3 May 18, 2005 As far as I can tell, religion is simply a control mechanism for masses of people. I don't know that it really has any function other than that. Walt
pajarito 0 #4 May 18, 2005 Quotemost of the people within my peer group practice no religion. I don't know if they are spiritual people or not but I know that have no use for organized faith. I guess that my personal society is a non faith society. Does anyone know if there are similar groups like this that existing in the islamic cultures around the world? I saw many Muslims in Afghanistan who practiced their religion mostly for political or financial gain and not spirituality. In reality, I'd also call them "non-faith" as you mentioned. I'm sure there are people like that in every religion. I'm also sure that “waltappel” is correct in saying that many use religion simply as a means of control. It's very predictable, given people's selfish nature, that some will seek individual gain or power from any means of opportunity. There are also many more that are sincere in their faith. larskjargaard 0 #5 May 18, 2005 I think groups that have no faith will somehow keep religious movements in check or at least have some influence on society as a whole.I wonder if this happens everywhere. Thats why I asked.
Darius11 12 #6 May 18, 2005 I am not sure if I understand your questions. But in all countries there are people who do not follow a religion. In Iran I know many who hate Islam simply because they see it only as how the current government uses it. I know many that do not believe in God. However in countries like Iran you can be imprisoned or killed if you advertise that belief.I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not." - Kurt Cobain
BETO74 0 #7 May 18, 2005 Uhh.............the old can of worms depends who you ask if you ask Einstein he believed the more about the universe the more I’m convinced there is a god, or you can ask Stephen Hawkins he would say If there is a god he did not had a choice when he created the universe it had to be the way it is. How good will be a god without the power of choice creating the things? the big bang theory that somebody mentioned here allows the big crunch theory, the universe been infinite like a mobius strip maybe???. Somebody here said something related to the only function of religion is to control the masses also studied by Clifford Gertz, (I think I missed spelled his name) father of modern anthropology believed religion was created to control masses and explained things they could not explained at that time. When Stephen Hawking meet with the pope John Paul II, the pope asked him to not research about the creation time, Stephen answered not to worry there was not creation time the universe is infinite and in perfect harmony. Conclusion is up to you what you want to believe, you could find backup for any theory you can think of, even the Alien Theory has followers. rhys 0 #8 May 19, 2005 nice post, you can find followers of all beliefs, but how credible are the reasonings behind them. as far as aliens go there is no reason why they don't exist but no reason why they do either. the big bang is a good theory on how the universe has come to be in its current state.b ut thats way above my head with nebula and black holes etc. but as far as our earth and our solar system is concerned. humans are at a stage now that it is not just a theory, no one thinks the moon is made of cheese, we were made from the sun just like the moon was made from the earth. there is a multitude of evidence for this. you have learned it at school. religon does not take this into consideration. why? how can all these people believe in something that does not have concrete evidence? faith they say? in what. the sun is our creator, we and all of our surroundings and everything that it's made of used to be part of the sun. except for h20 and a few other elements which came 'after' through 'shooting stars' is that hard to fathom? i don't think so and it seem to make much more sense than these religous nuts that are running the show. and while i'm on the subject, i saw aroura australis the night before last(fucking amazing). if you can understand why the aroura occurs then religon seems to seem silly."When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix
