Nightingale 0 #26 April 22, 2005 I've been eyeing the glock 17 or glock 19 myself. I really liked them when I borrowed them at the range.
lurch 0 #27 April 22, 2005 Mossberg question: I owned two Mossbergs 6 years ago. Pawnshop refugees I have no idea the model numbers. Both 12 gauge. One was actually a "westernfield" which as I understand is a Mossberg relabelled for sale through Montgomery Ward years ago. The parts between the two were 100% interchangeable. Both shotguns were guaranteed to jam if you racked the slide with the gun tilted more than maybe 30 degrees to the left. I first discovered this the one and only time I ever actually needed it for defense...Fortunately my attackers were too busy running to hear the sound of the shell hanging up halfway out of the magazine. If either one wasn't held level it would jam fairly frequently. I had a friend who had a .410 gauge Mossberg, a cute tiny version of my 12, identical in every way but smaller. It included the same design failure and jammed the same way under the same conditions, I had to teach this guy how to dismantle his gun to get the shell out. Does a Mossberg 500 do this?Live and learn... or die, and teach by example.

Kennedy 0 #30 April 23, 2005 Quote me too... i've had the mossberg 500 w/ pistol grip, 7 rounds in the tube and one up the pipe. all black. a bit rough, but totally realiable and very affordable. got me a surefire too... incredibly bright. and good warranty too, my two year old got the thing all wet, corroded the batteries and messed up the tail cap... surefire replaced it no questions asked, for free. (A) I'm jealous, as I on precisely zero shotguns at the moment. (B) SureFire is on a very, very short list for me. They rank right up there with L&B (pro-track). Both of those far outrank Cabela's and LLBean, even though I think both catalogers are spectacular.witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
sinker 0 #31 April 23, 2005 don't be too jealous, I had to sell the mossberg. Now all I have is a Kimber Ultra Carry II stainless and a Kel Tec 32 acp. That little mouse gun is very fun and very concealable. And the Kimber just simply rocks. Best gun I've ever shot. -the artist formerly known as sinker
Kennedy 0 #32 April 23, 2005 I never experienced the failure you describe in the Mossberg 500 or any other pump gun, rifle or shotgun. (of course, I've had plenty of other problems with some of them...) I specifically know that the Mossberg I used didn't have that problem. I know because we used it in a demonstration (ne DEA agents allowed) and had a volunteer rack the slide to throw a dummy shell to another audience member. The next dummy chambered normally (a.k.a. correctly).witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

sinker 0 #34 April 23, 2005 Sheep loath the sheepdog...until the wolf arrives. Don't be sheep - thank a police officer today, for no good reason. *** I love your line there. My dad was a cop. I make it a point to introduce my kids to cops when we're out and about. Gotta teach 'em respect while they're young. -the artist formerly known as sinker
AggieDave 6 #35 April 23, 2005 Same here, I have a Mossberg 500 special (18" barrel, pistol grip) and I've never had a problem like the one described. I'm willing to bet if a gunsmith broke the weapon down, he'd find something bent.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
