And we do have a dropzone.....it's called Bridge Day and I'm trying to make it legal all year long. IMHO, learn the language or go back to where you came from. Andrewwhyte 1 #22 April 13, 2005 Making english the official language does not prohibit people from speaking any other language. All it does is lay out the language for government work. Here in BC there are many people who speak punjabi, cantonese or manderin exclusively (to name a few). There are many worksites that use these or other languages. The fact that english is the official language just means that government correspondance comes in english (english and french for areas of federal jurisdiction) and they can't use language as an excuse for ignoring it. Immigrants or second and third generation West Virginians who wish to carry out their private affairs in another language will still be able to. I'm going to assume we can all agree that when the European settlers arrived they had no intention of assimilating with the native culture. As far as the arriving colonists were concened, there was no country to speak of, just available land with savages on it. Understandably, those "savages" fought back by all necessary means to save their home and culture. By and large they failed. The "invaders" overcame and setup a new culture and new government. Should I feel guilty if modern day invaders intent on changing my nation are more successfully repelled/intergrated?
