American Foreign Legion??

Recommended Posts

Given all of the US's military activity (these past two decades especially) what do you all think about the practicality, morality, multiple benefits, affect on US foreign policy, if the US were to build a Foreign Legion?

Possible pros?
-More troops/units/equipment for less cost.
-Citizenship after a 5-year contract. Plenty of takers there, I'm sure.
-Draft no longer need be a consideration.

Possible cons?
-Encourages even more the use of US force around the world.
-Devalues non-American lives even more than some believe Americans already do.
-...well, that's all I can think of right now, but those are two pretty f'n big ones.

If you google it, there are several points of view on this, so no point in placing clicky's here.

well, so far, we have foreign bases all over the world of one type or another. As far as foriegners signing up, we have plenty of that too. We have a lot of Mexican, Canadian, Phillipino, Carribean Islander, puerto rican ect. ect serving active duty that are given easier access to citizenship for fighting for us. I personally don't feel we need a foreign legion set up due to the fact that there are many imigrants willing to sign up.

Why not conscript all illegal aliens caught by INS for three years?

I'd rather put them in chain gangs and work them like prisoners.

Do you really want to arm them and trust them?

Sad but true. The British Army is now designed with the thought that it will only undergo offensive operations along side the US forces.
