Their reaction times slow down.

actually at least one study (quickly buried) showed that reaction times improved to a certain level of intoxication.

It is just as illegal to drive stoned as well as it is while drunk. (As it should be.)

thats the point, you should be held responsible for WHAT you do, no matter what the 'outside influences' alcohol, drugs, or mental instability...

place the blame where it lies, on the person not the substance.. and as with legal intoxicants, punish those who endanger others, but so long as you are in your home, or not operating a motor vehicle the government shouldnt interfere...

while your at it check the LD50 of cannibis compared to alcohol, tobacco and ALL other legal drugs...

***I recall a recent train crash that killed a fair number of people; the driver was found to be high.

If you are speaking of the Amtrak collision that occured on the N.E. corridor some years back on Superbowl sunday, I know two of the engineers that were on board the engine that ran the red and caused the collision. No one was smoking anything onboard. They were watching the game as they rolled up the line. They passed an intermediate that warned they were to approach at a restricted speed and to prepare to stop short of the signal. They ran the red onto the single from the doubleline not because of marijuana, but because they were busy watching a T.V. that one of them brought onboard for the day. According to my friend, Amtrak did not want to use that for a reason that a collision occurred. Everyone was pissed tested and most of them came back positve. They were tested several days after the collision. Amtrak felt that a more sinister reason was needed to explain what happened and that engineers watching T.V. and not the rails wouldn't cut it with the Feds, so marijuana became the culprit.

Disagree. Legalize it, people will use it as openly/frequently as alcohol. the accidents/deaths will follow. It's a question of rate of use, not morbidity.

of you truly believe this, that is your right. as stated before, i would fight and/or die to defend this right. that does not make it correct. i don't think anybody has ever stated that mj is safe, just that it is a lot safer than most things you put in your body. it is a fact that mj is safer than skydiving, but mix the two and it can turn deadly. does that mean that the govt should be allowed to tell me that i can't do it? which one - jumping or smoking mj? but that's all right, i expect people to trust our govt and believe everything they tell you(can you hear the sarcasm there?). how can anyone who is truly patriotic enough to actually use the term just stand by and let the govt continue to take freedoms away from us? it starts small, things you don't notice too much. then, next thing you know, BAM. i don't claim to know everything(unlike some people), but i do know how to think for myself instead of taking what i read at face value. all i want to see is the issue left to the individual states to put to a VOTE. that's what is supposed to happen in this country. any arguments to that, and i will gladly point you to my reference material, the us constitution. look it up, it's under marijuana legalization in the bill of rights. and yes it's there, under the 10th ammendment.
