lawrocket 3 #1 March 18, 2005 Ritalin Looks like someone did a study of 12 children and concluded that Ritalin caused a 430 percent increase in sister-chromatid exchanges, chromosomal abnormalities that occassionally can be linked with cancers. First class-action lawsuit to be filed in some state court with a plaintiff-friendly jury pool in 10, 9, 8... My wife is hotter than your wife.

miked10270 0 #4 March 18, 2005 "....sometimes lead to cancer, said researchers led by Randa El-Zein of the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston." Of course, there is always the (admitted slim) possibility that Randa El-Zein is NOT in fact a Doctor, but A LAWYER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The article NEVER suggests he's a doctor... Only that he is "OF" the institute... And my theory would go a long way to explaining acceptance of a study of 12 kids out of 2 million!? Mike. IanHarrop 43 #5 March 18, 2005 Good !!! Maybe they'll stop giving it to kids just because they behave like kids! I think this drug is used because parents can't, or won't, discipline their kids resulting in bad behaviour that a doc then fixes with drugs!"Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy
GTAVercetti 0 #6 March 18, 2005 Ritalin is a poor substitute for actual parenting anyway. "Hi, this is Mrs. Crabapple, you son's kindergarten teacher. Yes, Jimmy has been acting out in class. He cannot sit still and always speaks out of turn." "Oh my. That cannot be normal. I will get him on some drugs right away." BLEH. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing. AndyMan 7 #8 March 18, 2005 This is great news! Hopefully it'll put a dent in the over-treatment of bored kids. Now the doctors can say to the demanding parents: "Well, if you insist, I'll prescribe ritalin. Just so you know, it's linked to cancer". Hopefully that will make many parents reconsider. _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
GTAVercetti 0 #9 March 18, 2005 No, but I do know that when I was a kid, I WAS that kid who could not sit still, wouldn't shut up, always needed attention, and was just your basic pain in the ass. No drugs and I am fine. I have no doubt that Ritalin is useful in some cases, but since people have been having children and successfully rearing them since the dawn of time, and Ritalin has only been around for about .0000001% of that time, my guess is that it MIGHT be prescribe a LITTLE more than needed. -------------------------------------- I also found this little quote from an article from 2001: Ritalin production and use jumped 700 percent between 1991 and 1998, according to the DEA. UN statistics show that the United States used 80 percent of the world's Ritalin in 2000. Man, the rest of the world must have a shitload of crazy children on their hands. It is amazing they can still function at all. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.
unformed 0 #10 March 18, 2005 Quoteand do any of you here have children with ADHD or hell even have children at all so that there is some validity to your opinion? Yes, I have ADD. I went to a high which handed out Ritalin pills. I have many friends that have been on Ritalin since they were in second grade. High schools are fucking drug pushers depending on what company is sponsoring the local doctor. A good friend of mine was on the adult dose of Prozac when he was fifteen. He didn't need drugs, he just needed someone to talk to. He had recently lost both of his parents and was going through a tough time. But the doctor decided he needed antidepressants and fed him massive doses of it. Same shithead doctor put me on a massive dose of -multiple- antidepressants. I was in worse shape when I was on the drugs then when I was off. Kids have what is considered ADD because they are fucking kids. They are supposed to no have attention spans. Discipline fixes that, Ritalin temporarily cures it.This ad space for sale.
christelsabine 1 #11 March 18, 2005 Quoteand do any of you here have children with ADHD or hell even have children at all so that there is some validity to your opinion? Yes. There is. My son was 3 y/o, when his doctor stated that diagnosis. In respect of him I will not enter into details. He had hard years of therapies (it ended, when he turned 14) of every kind. In the end, it worked. He still is full of live, needs to do sports every day but: thks God he's enjoying life. His doctor in the beginning tried to convince me to give him Ritalin. I always refused. I learned how to bake our own bread, preparing even ketchup, all without any foodstuffs additives. Then was coming his first schoolday. He just turned 6. As he was completely nervous and unable to sit for a second, I called his doc. She said: Come over here, I will give him one or 2 pills of Ritalin. I allowed her to give him just a half pill. Still today, I feel guilty as hell and could cry endless when watching the video of that special event. His First Schoolday! My little boy was sitting there, not moving, like a zombie. Hundreds of children, hundreds of parents, and my baby not moving, not smiling, not enjoying that moment. The look in his eyes was not the same like before. He was like beeing stoned. A zombie. I never did that again. We had hard works over many years, and today I would like to thank every specialist who worked with "us". Yes, it needs to be "us". The kid itself cannot help itself. Folks, do not give that shit drogue to your kids. My personal experience, my opinion. At every time, I would join my kid again on such a hard, rocky way. But never again with even half a pill of Ritalin. Take your time for your kids whenever they need help. Do not give away your personal resonsibility for your kids by using/giving them any drogues. dudeist skydiver # 3105
Guest #12 March 18, 2005 Oh, Man, Lawrocket, please do not get me started. I'm in 100% agreement with the other people posting on this thread that doping up kids just for being kids is a crime that should be punishable with public flogging, starting with the school establishment and the NEA. mh ."The mouse does not know life until it is in the mouth of the cat." lummy 4 #13 March 18, 2005 QuoteYes, I have ADD. I went to a high which handed out Ritalin pills. I'm surprised that a High School could or would hand out a controlled substance. I know that Ritalin is often an abused drug especially amongst kids in High School, but the HS actually handing them out.. wow. My apologies if I've offended anyone. My oldest has ADHD and ritalin is pretty much the only thing that would slow his brain down enough to be able to do anything.I promise not to TP Davis under canopy.. FallinWoman 1 #14 March 21, 2005 I don't know what you mean by the "school establishment and the NEA", but speaking as a teacher... In my eight years of teaching (that is over 800 students) I believe that I have had one TRULY ADD child and two or three TRULY ADHD children. I have had hundreds on one drug or another. I do not approve of drugs, nor do any of my colleagues with whom I discuss such issues. We are all in agreement that it comes down to parents setting and enforcing limits. Antidote 0 #15 March 22, 2005 QuoteI cannot fix 15 years of lack of discipline in 270 minutes a week. That's the issue right there. The current generation of parents seem to think school is there no just to teach kids stuff, but to raise them fully as well.
