I whole heartedly agree. As a first generation immigrant (Germany), it makes no sense to me that people are hung up on fighting a 130+ year old lost cause. The civil war is over. The CSA lost. Get used to it.
The irony here is stunning.
You agree that we should all have strong feelings about the confederacy, but at the same time want people to get over events of 130 years ago?
So, uh, which of those did you want?

I'm sure that there were several Englishmen who felt the same about George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, Paul Revere...
The difference is that the English really do appear to have gotten over it. I haven't seen any English posters getting up in arms about it, anyway.

Right; there are no Britons flying the flag of England at courthouses in Boston out of "respect for the past" or anything.

If there were English flying their flag in Boston, no one would care. That's because everyone's gotten over it.

...Unlike southerners who still are pissed the CSA lost...or still refuse to admit that they lost...

Oh, I think a few people would be upset that a US courthouse was flying the flag of a foreign country. Not because they have gotten over it or not gotten over it, but because it's a US courthouse.
The reason it doesn't happen is that Britons don't really care. Southerners do.

Um, dude? I have yet to see a Southerner chime into this thread caring. It seems like maybe you're the one having trouble getting over it.

Does it strike you as ironic that we (none of us Southerners, unless I am mistaken) are arguing about this?
Now, who's passions are stirred by this issue?

Tom, someone could post that Roseanne Barr is annoying and someone here would argue with him. That's what this forum is for!

While I'm not a Southerner, I can say that I made the very same statement (the war's over, you lost, get over it) to a very proper Tennessee belle I was dating. She damned near ripped my balls off.
This is a very sensitive issue in many parts of the South. Mainly among people with nothing better to do.

I have a British flag decal on one of my helmets, and on the back of my MG. And a US flag on the other
side.

if that's the way you see things, that's cool. we have rights to our own opinions.
personally, i see the south as a bunch of people fighting to keep the rights of states in their own hands. and you're right, they lost. the reason there is no getting over it is that's what is wrong with our fed govt now. that's when the power was shifted from the states to the fed. i read a book about the south winning the war and it was kinda cool, 5 countries in the continental us, called if the south had won gettysburg.
