Tink1717 2 #1 March 11, 2005 Today, Senator Paul Sarbanes (D), of Maryland announced he will not seek a new term. Citing his age, he stated that he will step down at the end of this term. What that means for Maryland is now that the Republicans occupy the governors office and all but four jurisdictions (Baltimore city, Baltimore county, Prince Georges and Montgomery county) are voting solidly with the Republicans, a Republican senator is very likely next. Anyone who spends any significant time in the state will quickly learn that Maryland is much more red than blue. It is only a question of time until the rapidly collapsing DNC looses what was once one of its strongest states. With Maryland going red, can Pennsylvania, Delaware, West Virginia and New jersey be far behind? Which brings the next question: How long can the DNC survive if they have lost their base in the former stronghold states? I think not long.Skydivers don't knock on Death's door. markd_nscr986 0 #2 March 11, 2005 I was thinking Howard Dean's "girlie man" battle cry would get them all energized and enthusiastic .....swing Maryland back to the blueMarc SCR 6046 SCS 3004
Tink1717 2 #3 March 11, 2005 Nope. In fact I think Dean is what the DNC needs to finally kill it off. The DNC has no clue as to the damage he will do. Let them go I say, the sooner we are rid of them, the better. The DNC is the Whigs of the 21st century. Let them rest in peace.Skydivers don't knock on Death's door. They ring the bell and runaway... SkyDekker 1,465 #5 March 11, 2005 Yeah, but it would be one led by the Great Bush II. He is by far the best president the US has ever had. I mean, just look at what he has done for the country.
Tink1717 2 #6 March 11, 2005 Well, it's looking more and more like it is going that way. The left no longer has any representation, the only issues that get attention are those that originate from the right and the party that represents the left, the DNC, is impotent. I sincerely hope that the left gets its act together, but the DNC must not be allowed to continue. They must be consigned to the dust bin of history. A new party, one that is in touch with its base, one that will truly understand its opposition, one that will truly fight for its base, must arise to replace the bloated losers that currently occupy the DNC.Skydivers don't knock on Death's door. Tink1717 2 #11 March 12, 2005 Not for long. The Republicans have the goveners mansion, no further intrusion into the realm of fire arms can be expected. Once (in the next go round of local elections) the next cycle is complete, we can expect to see significant roll backs of the restrictions enacted under the previous, DNC lead, admisitrations.Skydivers don't knock on Death's door. MC208B 0 #14 March 12, 2005 There's always the Libertarian Party which I'm going to go with from now on. I like their platform of minimal government and to me, it's the right thing to do. I voted for GWB for POTUS last two times but this Iraq debacle has pretty much turned me against the Republicans.

Well, we can talk about the similarities with the two: Utilitarianism - The most good for the most people. Do we see that ideology in both Communism and American Capitalism? I think so. Sometime the opposites get so extreme that they reach around and touch on the backside; thsi is a case of that. Look at all the right-wing federal laws hat have been passed since the Regan admin, they are certainly about the good of the whole outweighing the good of the individual. Now you ask, what's wrong with the good of the whole? Nothing, so long as it doesn't trample upon the good of the individual, such as in the rights of the US Constitution. See, that is what has separated us from other countries, we used to have this concept that the rights of the individual are as important as the rights of the whole and with this concept the rights of the whole are protected thru this. Now we have just gone straight to the rights of the whole, ignoring and undermining the rights of the individual. Even conservatives will echo this, but they will talk about the losses of the 2nd, for which I agree with. Is it better for the whole if guns are no more for the common citizen? Probably, but the individual will lose their right/ability to defend themselves. That's just one area of law, we can talk about the Overtime Law, aimed at RN's, The Terrorism Law, The PAtriot Act, The TSA and so many more.
tcnelson 1 #16 March 12, 2005 QuoteDo we see that ideology in both Communism and American Capitalism? I think so. no, not at all. you sound to me like a 19 year old who just finished an early philosophy or history class in college. american capitalism and communism are economic black and white. in reality, the rights of the individual are provided by the whole (american people). the freedoms "of the individual" that we enjoy will cease to exist if the whole of this country does not fight for them. the ideals born in this country are very young to this world and, if they are to thrive, the american people who have forgotten or who have never understood need to understand that freedom Is Not Free. right and wrong is a concept that still applies to all of us; discipline is a good thing; individuals are special but individuals need to be willing to protect, at all costs, the freedoms that the whole enjoy. bottom line: america is still great because there are enough people willing to sacrifice their individual rights to provide freedom to the whole."Don't talk to me like that assface...I don't work for you yet." - Fletch NBFT, Deseoso Rodriguez RB#1329
