Author Hunter S. Thompson Kills Himself

ASPEN, Colo. (AP) - Hunter S. Thompson, the acerbic counterculture writer who popularized a new form of journalism in books like ``Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas,'' fatally shot himself Sunday night at his Aspen-area home, his son said. He was 67.

``Hunter prized his privacy and we ask that his friends and admirers respect that privacy as well as that of his family,'' Juan Thompson said in a statement released to the Aspen Daily News.

Pitkin County Sheriff Bob Braudis, a personal friend of Thompson, confirmed the death to the News. Sheriff's officials did not return calls to The Associated Press late Sunday.

I liked the stuff he wrote for Rolling Stone in the 70's and I liked Hells Angels. I didn't care much for his writings after that, but anyone who can piss off the Hells Angels to the point they beat him up is definitely "different".

This sucks ass. And it ruined my morning coffee.

I hope he left something for us to read explaining why. I was in Moab about 10 years ago and he was eating a few tables from me, but I did not dare say anything to him. Damn! But, in true HST style, he got the last word in and did exactly what he wanted and fuck everyone else!

I guess tonight I will go home and watch Fear and Loathing for the 1,339,230 time in honor of HTS!
