Author Hunter S. Thompson Kills Himself

Monday February 21, 2005 4:31 AM

ASPEN, Colo. (AP) - Hunter S. Thompson, the acerbic counterculture writer who popularized a new form of journalism in books like ``Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas,'' fatally shot himself Sunday night at his Aspen-area home, his son said. He was 67.

``Hunter prized his privacy and we ask that his friends and admirers respect that privacy as well as that of his family,'' Juan Thompson said in a statement released to the Aspen Daily News.

Pitkin County Sheriff Bob Braudis, a personal friend of Thompson, confirmed the death to the News. Sheriff's officials did not return calls to The Associated Press late Sunday.

I liked the stuff he wrote for Rolling Stone in the 70's and I liked Hells Angels. I didn't care much for his writings after that, but anyone who can piss off the Hells Angels to the point they beat him up is definitely "different". :P

This sucks ass. And it ruined my morning coffee.

I hope he left something for us to read explaining why. I was in Moab about 10 years ago and he was eating a few tables from me, but I did not dare say anything to him. Damn! But, in true HST style, he got the last word in and did exactly what he wanted and fuck everyone else!;););)

I guess tonight I will go home and watch Fear and Loathing for the 1,339,230 time in honor of HTS!:P:D:|B|;)
