Zep 0 #1 February 16, 2005 This Idiotic left wing government that we have in Spain has gone too far this time. I can live with that arsehole zapatero alienating Spain from the rest of the civilised world an being a brown tounge licking up to chirac an shroder (God every time I see that arsehole licking cirac an shroder's crack I want to vomit) all that I can live with . But now him an his pathetic puppet government want to ban smoking in all vehicles cars, vans an trucks. Soon if they have thier way smoke behind the wheel an a ticket If I had my way I'd put the whole government in a smoke chamber an smoke them to death. Non smokers need not reply. Rebecca 0 #2 February 16, 2005 Ya know - I quit smoking, and in general, I support bans in public places, especially restaurants and other places children are allowed. Bars, eh, I hate the smoke, but it's a bar. Come on. But CARS??? That's NOT a public place, and probably one thing that keeps road rage from being road murder. As for safety, psh, cell phones, food, stuff, kids are WAY more distracting than a ciggie. I used to love smoking and driving. I hope they don't pass the law. Wait, do you really think Spanish cops will actually carry out the fines? you've got to ask yourself one question: 'Do I feel loquacious?' -- well do you, punk? rehmwa 2 #3 February 16, 2005 I'm agreeing with Rebecca and I hate smoking. The only exception to the car thing is if kids are in it, I think the smoker is a selfish idiot at that point. One thing to think on, the control of the things like smoking in your private property ties to a particular branch of politics much more often than the other. Makes you think twice about certain personal freedoms and who you back. ... Driving is a one dimensional activity - a monkey can do it - being proud of your driving abilities is like being proud of being able to put on pants

kelel01 1 #6 February 16, 2005 I am a former smoker (by 3 weeks ), and I agree with you. Unless they want to make cigarettes illegal all-around, or prove that smoking cigarettes makes you "under the influence" in some manner, it's no business of theirs if you smoke in your own vehicle. dorbie 0 #8 February 16, 2005 I dunno, have you ever seen "The Big Lebowski"? Smoking & driving can be dangerous! It seems like todays politicians have no concept of the limits on power, just WTF are some of these clowns thinking?
kelpdiver 2 #9 February 16, 2005 Smoking is about to be banned in all public parks of San Francisco...except the golf courses ($$). Aside from the usual smoker abuse, the strongest argument made was the large number of butts thrown out on the ground. Same applies for car drivers. Somehow that ashtray doesn't get used. In that regard, the smokers (and it's not just a few bad apples) are bringing it upon themselves. Few things are as irritating when commuting on the motorcycle as seeing FIRE on the ground in front of you for the 50ms it takes to identify it as yet another litterbug's offspring. jlmiracle 7 #10 February 16, 2005 Does Spain allow you to drive and talk on a cell phone? I think that should be banned way before smoking in vehicle, but non of us will have any personal freedoms before too long. jBe kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle. Tonto 1 #13 February 17, 2005 Well I think that's a fantastic idea. Hands free cell phones most people can get - but cigarettes everyone plays dumb. I came across an accident once. Kid knocked off his bike, stone dead. Driver had been ashing her smoke out the window, and had bumped the coal out, which fell someplace sensitive. While all this was going one, she wasn't driving. She was chasing the coal, and guess what? Someone's dead. Fuck em. If you're going to do something, do it properly. Drive. No smoking. No cell phones. No eating. Drink from a bottle the way F1 drivers do. Drive. Look where you're going. tIt's the year of the Pig.
kelel01 1 #14 February 17, 2005 Ok, so no listening to CD's, no having any sort of food, drink, or paper in your car . . . Distractions happen no matter what, and getting distracted by smoking is, IMO, rare.
Tonto 1 #15 February 17, 2005 So are accidental gun deaths - but many people are keen on limiting them. In the past century, more people have died in vehicle collisions than all people in all wars in all time. Saying its rare is failing to grasp reality. tIt's the year of the Pig. kelel01 1 #16 February 17, 2005 I've never seen one statistic showing the number of accidents caused by cigarettes. Show that to me, and then we can determine if it's rare or not. But given the fact that the one incident you named is the only one I've heard of . . . There might have been more people who got in a wreck from dropping a Big Mac in their lap. You don't know. Tonto 1 #17 February 17, 2005 QuoteYou don't know. Quite right. That's why I say ban eating, cell phones, everything. Just fucking drive. The people who cause accidents with Big Macs, cigarettes etc shut the fuck up and just say "Shit happened." If it were not the fact that I was RIGHT THERE and had this woman blubbering on about how SORRY she was, she burned herself, etc etc it would have just been one more kid knocked off a bike. tIt's the year of the Pig. SkyDekker 1,465 #18 February 17, 2005 I am a former smoker and strongly oppose the idea of banning smoking or any otherwise legal activity on or in private property. Canada is discussing the idea of banning smoking in cars with minors present. Though I think that a parent smoking with their kid in the car is an absolute a-hole, I am not in favour of making laws to ban it.
Zep 0 #19 February 17, 2005 Iv'e driven in SA I would say that the least of your problems are people driving an smoking at the same time I think SA should introduce a ban on the drivers that have a depth perception (speed vs distance)problem I imagine 80% of the population would be banned. I agree with not using the window as an ashtray. As a biker I hate it when I'm behind someone who flicks ash an butts out. If it wasent for the fullface I'd seriously think about launching a big green grolly in thier window as I pass them. Gone fishing

dropoutdave 0 #22 February 18, 2005 I hope the guy does get fined, there is no excuse for throwing anything out of your car window that wont biodegrade. That's karma for ya. It's fucking rediculous trying ot stop people smoking in their cars, i've been distracted far more times from people talking to me, if your going to ban smoking in cars then ban everything else, talking, drinking, eating, changing the radio station and whilst they're at it how about scratching your arse too. ------------------------------------------------------ May Contain Nut traces......
