...no mention of Hamas? Call me a cynic but until they agree, this is just smoke and mirrors.

Bush has asked Congress to provide the Palestinian Authority with $350 million in U.S. funds to help rebuild infrastructure damaged or destroyed in the Palestinian territories after four years of Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

What?

Two words:

Trojan Horse

:P

Two more words: Dream On :):)

Two more words: Condie Rice.>:( I've been following the coverage of her tour pretty closely & President Sharon did not look like a happy bunny following their first meeting. From what's happened since I suspect that Rice put a few blunt words in Sharon's shell-like regarding future US/Israeli relations! I have little doubt that there was a similar message to President Abbas.

Whatever happened behind closed doors, the fact remains that following Rice's visit both sides are far closer to agreement than they were before, and both sides have stated the futility of trying to "win" through force.

I'll bet that this is the one!

Regardless of whether or not it lasts or leads to even better events, any progress is good news. It may turn to another "one step forward, 2 steps back", but at least for the time being, it is heading forward. And I believe that's great news.:)

just watch FOX forgeting about the part where they broke the cease fire.../

FOX will break the cease fire? I'd think ongoing hostilities would be more favorable to the styles of the left wing news networks. FOX wants peace in the President's term because they are "a tool of this administration":S.

It would probably be a conglomerate of several more liberal news stations to stage a false raid or so - and then only in a slow news week :P

This has been building for a few weeks now. Abbas deployed security forces and Israel stopped targetting terrorists well before Condi got there. Personally, I think such visits by foreign diplomats are usually just PR gigs.

true.
there is a different feeling about it this time.
buts its too soon to be optimistic. when terror attack can take it all down, and its not like they've stopped trying (especially hamas, sponsored by Iran).

problem is that unless they (PA) actually pick up the ball and destroy all terror infrastructure, they'll only use this break to get back on their feet and reorganize for the next round.

sorry, i'm trying to be optimistic, but its not so easy based on words alone.

My faith is a bit low due to more then 2000 years of history to prove the opposite.

Interesting to hear, specially from an Iraq supporter. Isn't that exactly what is happening in Iraq, trying to install a form of government not common in that country or that area of the world. Going against history.

How is it relevant to your work?

Instead of giving more aid money to the PA, I think the very most we should do is match contributions from the estate of Arafat, he stole so much while he was alive.

Sorry, but I don't want to continue this conversation. I never meant there to be a debate, hence the orignial post was made to the bonfire. I don't come into Speakers Corner for a reason... I really don't like to argue on controversial issues on the Internet. I'm more of a bonfire/freefly forum junkie. Have a great day! :)
