mikkey 0 #1 February 1, 2005 UN bashing is so popular here - its like watching Fox News People have been so busy talking about corruption in the "Oil for Food program" and used it to bash the UN. Here is a story about how the US occupation authority mismanaged $9bn. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/4224661.stm QuoteAn official US report has criticised the US occupation authority in Iraq for mismanagement of funds worth nearly $9bn (£4.7bn). The report says provisional authority which governed Iraq until mid-2004 failed to properly oversee its budget. However, the report acknowledges that it was working in difficult conditions. Well the oil for food also worked in difficult conditions. Now are the UN bashers going to bash the US government for this? I wont - Just shows how easy big programs with lots of money get corrupted.--------------------------------------------------------- When people look like ants - pull. When ants look like people - pray.

But I actually enjoy it.

Here is a story about how the US occupation authority mismanaged $9bn. One difference, if true, is the money wasn't used to illegally support a murderous dictator while denying the Iraqi people of needed food and medicine. QuoteAn official US report has criticised the US occupation authority in Iraq for mismanagement of funds worth nearly $9bn (£4.7bn). QuoteWell the oil for food also worked in difficult conditions. Now are the UN bashers going to bash the US government for this? I wont - Just shows how easy big programs with lots of money get corrupted. This is really stretching for a comparison. What difficult conditions did the UN program work under? How do you arrive at such a ridiculous comparison? Please provide the facts that support your claim that the UN was working under the same duress. Perhaps you should watch Fox News more than you apparently do. Sure, we could have sent in legions of accountants with paper and pencil, to try and keep track of all the money disbursements during a war in a country with no infrastructure. But restoring peace, feeding the hungry, making clean water, and generating electricity quickly, all seemed more important. Silly Americans! Quote: The official who led the CPA, L. What do you guys expect Bremer to say - yes I fucked $9B up = $30 M a day for the period in question? $9 Bn are not accounted for. The Oil for Food program also lost a lot of money and is still being investigated. The program had also very difficult conditions to work under. Trying to regulate oil exports and get food and medicin into the country in return. This during a total economic blockade and with a corrupt brutal regime in place in Iraq. So you think Oil for Food shows how "bad" the UN is but when the US "looses" lots of money in Iraq - its not a problem.--------------------------------------------------------- When people look like ants - pull.
