1911 magazines

Recommended Posts

I've heard that the Wilson Combat magazines are a bit heavier then "stock" 1911 magazines or Kimber magazines, which would make tactical reloads and such easier and quicker.

Any truth to that? Any of yall have any experience with that?

The only thing I've noticed is that the Wislon 8 rounder with the black bottom is different from your classic 7 round metal bottomed mag, but that just makes sense. As far as a weight difference you can feel, well, I doubt it.

Shit, the ammo weighs as much as the gun in a G17. Somehow I don't think a Wilson will feel any different from another 1911 mag when it's loaded up and in the well.

Besides weighted IPSC style magazines I don't see how a slight difference would make a difference, but this is somthing that a few IDPA shooters were telling me to do. Go out and buy some Wilson 8 rd and leave my Kimber magazines for plinking at the range. That it made all the difference in a reload, especially if its not a tact load keeping the semi-spent magazine.

*shrug*

Its sort of a moot point for me right now anyways, I don't have the money to go shoot nor do I have the money to go buy new magazines...so its basically mental masterbation.

I have a few of them - they seem to be a bit heavier steel, but probably not enough to make any real difference.

As long as your mags/gun are set up well, either one should drop free.

I've also had good luck with the McCormick PowerMags...

Better yet, I have seen a 1911 frame where the grip had been widened to take a stacked magazine of 14 rounds.... If there's one thing better (faster) than doing combat reloads, surely it's having to reload half as often!

:)

Sounds cool, but then my gun isn't IDPA legal anymore and I couldn't shoot with them. And my weapon would then be bulky and much heavier, thus harder to conceal. That would be sad since my Kimber is my favorite weapon and I like having it.;)

Well, it's better to hit what you're shooting and reload than to throw lead downrange and miss, so if I shoot a 1911, I'll stick with a single stack, thank you very much (of course if you can shoot double stacked .45s and comfortably carry them, go for it).

Dave, what the fuck are you doing spending all that money on a Kimber? You are not going to be able to use it as a carry gun when you get that $23k a year cop job anyway. IPSC shit is fun, but you can get just as good a result with a much less expensive gun if all you are doing is combat pistolcraft. As to magazines though, you can replace the feet on every magazine I have ever owned with weighted ones if you are concerned that your gun is not clean enough to drop your mag on reloads. I have been out of the "single stack" game for some time now, but do like the feel of a narrower gun. My last one was a Mark IV series 70 with match components.

And people wonder why I'm applying to Wayne, NJ police department. They start rookies out around $55K/year before overtime and odd jobs. Not bad eh?

As if anyone cares, it looks like this Jersey boy is going to be one of New York's Finest. B|

I'm not, as stated I don't have the money to buy these things, I'm just excersizing some mental masterbation. I don't even have the money to go shoot right now.

Well, in this area cops start out at $32k while still at the academy, go up to $34k during their probation year then with my 129hrs of college credit my base pay is about $37k a year without overtime.

All the local PDs carry Glock 22s, the .40, great weapon, I like my Kimber because I like my Kimber. Besides I can carry it all I want when not on duty...just as I do now. It became my primary carry weapon shortly after I broke it in.

I'm talking about IDPA not IPSC, weighted mags are illegal in IDPA shoots, the IDPA was created to get away from the IPSC race gun bullshit.;)

And you're right, it is a shitload of fun. And you're right, I had the same amount of fun with my Glock 17 combat shooting as well. I can't help it if I really really enjoy shooting my Kimber TLE/RL II Pro a bit more then shooting my Glock.:P

And a Beretta 92 is what you keep in the office and use as a paperweight, since it is not good for anything else

What was Inspector Cluso's (sp?) cheif's name who shot his nose off because he had a lighter that looked exactly like his handgun?

It was in one of the pink panther movies...

Anyways, I've put a few hundred rounds through a Beretta 92 and I was never impressed. Although they're used a lot and shot a lot and used successfully by folks who shoot a lot more then I do...

Commisioner Dreyfuss, played by Herbert Lom. I love that whole running gag, especially when he tries to shoot Clouseau with the lighter:D.

Anyway, back to those 1911 magazines, I used to have one but it ripped in half. Paper tends to tear easily when it gets that old y'know.
Do you want to have an ideagasm?
