> Please explain the criminal act Haliburton was tried and convicted.

Fined 7.5 million for SEC violations while Cheney was CEO. Fined 3.8 million for exporting nuclear triggers to Libya. Fined 27 million for meals they never delivered to troops in Iraq. Most recently a judge rejected a proposed $6 million offer from Halliburton to settle the most recent lawsuit since he thought the penalty will be far greater.

>So we should have only gone after Al Capone, but not his criminal organization?

We should go after Capone and the people who committed crimes along with him. It would be silly to claim that Capone's crimes were Chicago's fault.

Fines don't work agains huge multinational companies. Just part of the cost of doing business. A few JAIL TERMS for the company officers is called for.

I was fined for underpaying my taxes. I am not a criminal. I was fined for letting the parking meter expire. I'm still not a criminal. I asked you to cite where Haliburton was convicted of a criminal offense. Apparently you were unable to do it.

And it would be silly to blame New York for the UN's crimes. So whats your point?

Imagine, senators asking tough questions of someone who will have to represent our country! The emperor will NOT be pleased.

Boxer was grandstanding. We all know she just wanted to feel important for a change. Now she'll go back to being a do nothing senator for our state.

Rice was remarkably polite given that Boxer was not very subtly calling her a liar. Cabinet members should not have the same scrutiny as a judge. They shouldn't be bounced because they once had an illegal alien nanny, thus sticking us with Janet Reno.

That will never happen, they would have to throw the current VP in jail.

And how is he involved in the day to day running of Haliburton?

Ah! In that case the UN is completely clear of any criminal wrongdoing, since they have not been convicted in any criminal court. In fact, the only conviction (accustion and admission of guilt, actually) has come from the US attorney general and was leveled against a US citizen. So by your standards, we bear all the blame for the UN oil-for-food fiasco so far. Odd you would espouse such standards given your eagerness to smear the UN.

>And it would be silly to blame New York for the UN's crimes.

Just as it is silly to blame the UN for the US's crimes (and the crimes of any other individuals.)

I have no idea where you get this from what I've said. I said that I want those involved brought to justice regardless of which country they are from or who they are. Obviously they would have to be tried and convicted.

WTF are you talking about? Who is trying to blame the UN for US crimes. Are you suggesting this should only be blamed on a few individuals within the UN and has nothing to do with the UN as an organization? If so, then by your standard, Haliburton shouldn't be held accountable for the actions of its' leaders.

I don't have a problem with tough questions, as long as they are germane to determining a nominee's fitness to hold a cabinet position. Boxer was doing little other than repeating DNC talking points RE the Bush Administrations policies on Iraq and trying to berate Dr. Rice. Apparently being NSA for four years, holding a PhD in political science, and fluency in Russian doesn't quite qualify one to be SecState in Kerry & Boxer's opinion. One wonders what their ideal SecState would be able to do and what qualifications they might have. Perhaps having represented the Chinese government as Sandy Berger did. Or be able to balance a broomstick with a grand piano atop it on their nose whilst riding a unicycle, patting their head, rubbing their stomach, and humming O Tannenbaum perhaps? Only they know I suppose.

Boxer sounded like a spoiled rotten child screaming at a distinguished professor.

I agree but she was playing to a different audience. Her target constituency was thinking "At last someone finally asking the tough questions.", when of course she was just belching rhetorical accusations she knew the answers to anyway. These committee public sesisons are like Soviet show trials.

What crimes do you mean?

What is the problem with the French and Russians ignoring the UN? Is it irrelevant? Why should only the U.S care what the U.N. think?

I want every company and individual who ripped off the Iraqi people, helped support SH and commited any crime to be brought to justice and punished severely if they are found guilty. I couldn't care less what country they are from or who they know.
