Zenister 0 #26 January 10, 2005 QuoteQuotesilly assertion... how about you go read a bit on the Buddhist faith then come back a bit more enlightened. you are missing the point completely.. Just playin on the words. I'm sure there is more to it than what I was talkin about. As far as reading up on it.....I have no interest in being enlightened in something that I could not possibly believe in. Just MY agnostic beliefs. no interest in removing ignorance? sad really... you've already made up your mind with little to no information... its not exactly an 'agnostic' belief, as you havent even LOOKED at all the information available yet, so how could you possiblly know what there is to make a decision about?? ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. bisqit999 0 #27 January 10, 2005 to be agnostic, one believes that there really is no way to prove that there is a god. No ignorance there..if thats what I believe in then my stance certainly is an "agnostic" belief. It's not Buddhism I'm talking about. I choose to not read up on ANY religious organization. Don't get me wrong here....I'm not preaching that anyone else is wasting their time, I just feel that I would be.
Dougiefresh 0 #28 January 10, 2005 QuoteThe catholic church is exactly that. A cult. Stand up, sit down, stand up, sit down, repeat after me, give me your money, go and do as i say. The catholic church tries to have way to much influence over its members. They would take an old ladies last dollar if she was willing to offer it. Definitely a "business oriented cult" in my opinion. Amen. Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so. --Douglas Adams
Zenister 0 #29 January 10, 2005 to be agnostic one believes humanity does not have enough information to KNOW if there is a god or not. (or more accurately to know the nature of god). If you havent looked at the information available you are making a decision from a position of ignorance. i have no issues with any belief, religion, atheist or agnostic... but to make such a decision without any research is foolish...____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. SpeedRacer 1 #35 January 12, 2005 QuoteMy favorite is "Drink the Kool Aid " yep, and from some of the answers on this thread, the Catholics (or pick any other mainstream religion) are no different than the Jonestown cult. I can see there was no use asking the original question in the first place, as people either don't understand it or are being disingenuous. Zenister 0 #36 January 12, 2005 no we completely understand. the difference is some of us recognize that the primary difference between a 'cult' and a 'religion' is how much influence the 'extreme element' was able to exert it in its early stages... the catholic church could easily be classified as a cult (even by your definition)... particularly in the middle ages perhaps you've heard of the term "auto da fe" ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
