Cast my vote for the Glock .45
Of course I also really like my Desert Eagle 9 just for fun.
Then there's the Remington 870 Express Magnum for home defense. No need for accuracy there...
Guns are Fun.

Personal preference:
1911A1, smooth, powerful without trying to show off... If you don't like the kick, put a comp on it.
The Glocks tend to look to.... plasticy and most don't feel right (angles or something). (and it comes in tupperware)
The Desert Eagle is just too much.

The Glocks and other hi-caps feel like holding a 2x4 to me....

The newer Glocks with the modeled grips fit my hand perfect. Then again, a 1911 fits my hand perfectly as well. Sigs don't and most compact and subcompact handguns don't fit my large paws as well.

Went to a gun show today.... not the typical cheap, old random pieces selling for next to nothing and parts tables next to the trinkity jewelry... rather this had some NICE display tables with some serious collecitons! There was a 1911 collection that was BEAUTIFUL! He had some MINT pistols from 1914 with intact blueing and the original boxes.... He had an old 1905. Another table had a Union Switch and Signal... nice (only 3K)!!!! There were also some good rifle displays... the M1 Garand set included one with the original gas system before they lenghtened the barrel and modified it to the way it is now and one of the Navy models with 7.62 stamped on the reciever. There was no way I could have afforded any of those to add to my collection, but it was impressive looking at those. I was quite happy what I learned today! B|

A shotgun with a pistol grip is, in my humble opinion, one of the most fun guns to shoot. Recoil is negligable (sp?) because you are holding it in your arms and not against your shoulder. Get a plastic five gallon bucket and stand about twenty yards from it and see how fast you can get five shots into it. It dances all over the place but you will be amazed how quickly you can get good at it. I had an 870 that I used to shoot all the time like that. I also have a model 12--an old Winchester without a disconnect on the trigger. That means you can fire one shot and keep your finger depressed on the trigger and just pump. Way fun!

That is a very expensive collecting field. Many of the more rare manufacturer pistols sell for $10,000 or more. Eeek!

I attended a 1,000-yard match Sunday morning, and learned, or I should say, re-learned, a couple of lessons.

1) When the gas piston nut comes loose on your M1A, accuracy goes to shit. I suddenly shot about three misses in a row before I figured out I had a loose nut. (I know someone will jump on that line...)

2) I can't read the wind worth a shit. You can be banging away just fine hitting the center of the target, but if the wind changes by just a small amount, at that distance it'll blow your bullet completely off the target. I've gotta learn to read the heat mirage...

But it sure is satisfying when everything is working right, to hit something six-tenths of a mile away!. Woohoo!

I haven't shot any matches recently (read "years and years"), but I do like the distance shooting. (sometimes shoot at "the property" which is owned by friends and has a 1,000yd range. I used to do fairly well in service rifle matches. But need time to practice - and if it's good enough weahter to shoot, it's good enough to jump! Tough dilema

Anyone have a Walther P99 or P990? they are almost the same exact guns. I want it get it and wonder what they are like.

Heather

I've fired a P99 chambered in 9mm, I think I fired about 150 rounds from it. It's been months, but what I remember of it was that it didn't feel natural at all. It was kind of like the average Glock, in that the grip attempts to keep the barrel in line with the shooter's forearm, but it tends to feel extremely weird, and therefore throws off the aimpoint of an otherwise decent shooter after firing 1911s, Sigs, HKs, and other handguns with fairly neutral grips.

Another question for you gun guys in here. I had a chance to hold an FN Herstal FS2000, and it felt amazing. I want to fire it next time I go to the range, but I'm wondering if anyone knows of any online dealers that are better than Impact Guns. I look at their site as a reference, but I'm realizing they don't have my support for purchasing a rifle. Specifically, I'm looking for a good reputation with better pricing.

Now that I'm looking at concealed carry stuff I'm completely intrigued with both the Para Ordnance "Carry GAP" and Springfield's "Defender".

Both are .45GAP on a 3inch, 1911 frame that has been slimmed down a bit (about 1/8 of an inch overall). The PO is double action and the Springfled is single action. Both are 6+1 capacity but the PO also offers a "Carry Companion GAP" that is 7+1 and is a few ounches heavier and a 1/2 in longer barrel.I'm leaning more towards the PO b/c it does have a few features I like over the Springfield, like the counter-weighted barrel etc. but I just dont know! :S

I like them both.Too bad none of the stores around me have either one so that I can really check them out in person.I've handled and used both Springfield and AO weapons in the past and enjoyed them both.I currently have a Springfield XD .45GAP and regularly shoot my husbands AO 1911.Grr! to hell with it..I want them both.

Heres info on both for those interested.
