I just don't remember him being hated so much last time. Well, at least I don't remember hearing about him being hated so much last time. :P

Just got off the phone with an enlisted man in Korea. He said that Rumsfeld has become very unpopular with the troops there.

so if a celebrity cares about our troops it a nice gesture, but if a politician cares about our troops they are only doing it to further their career.

Has everyone become so incredibly desperate to bash the Bush cabinet that they are going to find a way to twist everything someone that works for him does into some evil plot. Making a nice gesture to those of us spending our christmas getting rained on in a combat zone(believe me i know its raining in iraq cause i'm soaking wet right now!!) is a great thing.

And even if you are right(which I seriously think your not)and he was just doing it for PR, I'm sure it made those soldiers he visited feel a little better for the holidays, so who cares.

Please don't take this as an insult to the person you spoke with, or me referring to him as a liar. But there are a lot of troops over, in a lot of different places, there is no way he could know how they feel. He is most likely referring to the group of people he associates himself with. Just an observation, not tryin to pick a fight or knock anyone.

No one said that. In fact, it doesn't even make sense.
In this case, he either genuinely cares, or doesn't care and is simply doing PR work.

I would think that whether or not his visit makes a soldier feel better depends upon what that soldier believes Rumsfeld's motives are.

At anyrate, don't confuse the animosity some of us have for certain politicians with how we feel about the soldiers!

I'm gratefull to all the soldiers, and hope you come home safe.

Got to hand it to Letterman... I appreciate him taking care of our troops...

Rumsfeld is after PR and only went after being accused of not caring enough...

these two people did the same thing, they visited the troops, but according to the original post only one of them was doing it for a good reason, The other one did it to further his career.

I don't feel that this was an attack against the soldiers, I must have worded what i said wrong.

Rumsfeldis the SECDEF and really has no need to further his career, he is just showing that he cares about the troops that are affected by the decisions he makes.

If he's friends with and thinks anything like you, he probably doesn't like Rumsfeld. No surprise there. :P However, I think you'd be hard pressed to try and show that the majority of the US military either doesn't support and like Rumsfeld, Bush, the current administration, or doesn't believe in the war that they're fighting right now. Think a friend of yours in Korea might be a biased sample? I think so. ;)

Six months ago he said R was very popular. Something's changed.

Maybe within his group of friends. I'm not in the game right now (I was, though.) but I've got my own group of friends who currently are. They say just the opposite. I'm just saying that your opinion or that of your friends on this matter is probably not very accurate overall.

All recently released troops that I have seen in my office do not talk positive about Rummy, Bush, Iraq or this administration. The only thing they talk positive about is Afghan.

All of the polls that I saw recently showed that troops supported Bush, his administration, and policies something like 4 to 1. You must just have all the quitters and whinners coming through your office. Those who just thought they'd be getting risk-free college tuition paid for by just having to wear a camouflage uniform. ;)

Very true, could be. However there are a few that I know were not that way. I had one Marine that quit about 4 years from retirement because of his dislike of what Bush was doing.

BTW - you don't believe in what Bush says? Polls come and go and you can't trust/believe in them?

Not very bright was it? But it is a free country. All the troops I know like Bush and believe in the current mission in Iraq. I did know one vet who didn't like Bush but felt he had to vote for Bush to keep kerry out.
