jcd11235 0 #1 December 23, 2004 My friend gave me a couple CDs full of MP3 files, all of this guy David Rovicks music. He is a Woody Guthrie/ Bob Dylan for this era. His songs are poignant, and often highlight the irony of it all. He also encourages free downloads of his music from his website, which is refreshing in this age of Mettalica and Napster (I like Mettalica, in general, but I thought it was hypocritical of them to sue over filesharing, when so much of their early material is blatant classical music rip-offs.) Anyway, some Rovics' titles include: "Who Would Jesus Bomb?" "The Best Democracy Money Can Buy" "Trafalgar Square" "Good Kurds, Bad Kurds" "Bomb Ourselves" "Reichstag Fire" Here's the lyrics to one: Operation Iraqi Liberation David Rovics We’ve got a situation and it calls for a solution That upholds our domination of the planet We’re gonna make our case and we’re gonna make it well But if you don’t like our logic you can can it We’ll use impeccable intelligence from any country in the world As long as we all see eye to eye And if we don’t find quite what we need we know what to do Just look into the camera and lie (Chorus) ‘Cause it’s Operation Iraqi Liberation Tell me, what does that spell Operation Iraqi Liberation O – I – L And we’ll lie about the missiles and the nuclear research We’ll lie about uranium We’ll build military bases and smile for reporters As we give away bubble gum And we’ll lie about bin Laden and his connections with the Saudis And we’ll lie about 9-1-1 And we’ll lie about the Baathists and their connections to Al Qaeda Because we know there’s none (Chorus) And we’ll lie about the North Koreans and we’ll lie about Iran And don’t mention Israel Keep those nuclear weapons out of this song And it will all hold together swell And now we’ll liberate these people, we’ll liberate their money We’ll liberate their soil We’ll liberate their airports, we’ll liberate their harbors And we’ll liberate their oil Created July, 2003 Copyright David Rovics 2003, all rights reserved http://www.davidrovics.com/ Check it out. jcd11235 0 #4 December 23, 2004 Quote sounds like he needs to team up with your other hero MICHAEL MOORE. Would you be so kind as to show us all the post where I say nice things about Moore? For the record, here's my take on Michael Moore: Personally, I liked The Big One. I didn't see Roger and Me, I saw Bowling for Columbine, and enjoyed it. I didn't see Farenheit 9/11, but the same friend who originally told me about Moore, says that he went overboard on some of his claims in his latest film, so I will likely not waste my time watching it. So, I would not consider Michael Moore to be a hero of mine. Einstein, yes. Leibniz, yes. Gandhi, yes. Marley, yes. Jung, yes. Moore, no. Which would put him in the same category as you, come to think of it. How does it feel to be like Mike?Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials! TheAnvil 0 #9 December 24, 2004 That's actually pretty funny. I have almost as much respect for this Rovics' political views as I do those of Ted Rall. I hope he's a good musician. Moore donated and is donating all of his profits from the movie to charity. Specifically so people who claim to look at both sides of an issue can't use that excuse. Zenister 0 #13 December 24, 2004 your likely one of the few... i thought it was a pretty terrible movie as well... some interesting questions without alot (as in hardly any) evidence for the allegations made, but i think people should at least SEE a film, read a book etc... before they put forth an opinion on it.... christians are notoriously bad about this... protests over movies like Life of Brian, Last Temptation and Dogma are perfect illustrations... far to many people look to their church for their opinions____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. TomAiello 26 #17 December 24, 2004 Oh, I know. I was just thinking that there are lots of "charities" that are basically thinly disguised PAC's. Almost anyone claiming to do things "for the children" seems to qualify. I remember that Ben and Jerry's use to give to a "charity" that worked for "banning handguns for our children."-- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
Ron 10 #18 December 24, 2004 Quoteyour likely one of the few... I TRY not to have an opinion about something till I have some experience with it. Watching that movie I could feel the hate he had for Bush. Some in the audience ate it up, others were turned off.. Still it was interesting to see how many people believed it as fact just because it was a movie."No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers,
